Late for Valentines Day, but that doesn't matter. More Azar is always good, right? Though after this, I should probably get some thin Azar art. Gotta be fit for the summer season!

Some people may know that Azar has an red-haired elf assistant in his workshop that goes by the name of Layla Redcliffe. An up-and-coming mage training at one of St. Heimslef's mage colleges, she's taken a great interest in Azar's mechanical work and was accepted as an assistant in his workshop to further her learning. Her goal is to find better ways to mix magic and technology in the name of innovation and invention. Azar was quite cautious at first to take not only a learner under his wing, but a mage at that. But Layla has proven to have nothing but good intentions and an eager willingness to learn more about mechanics that almost matches Azar's own. He now happily has her work alongside him whenever she's able to come down to the workshop.
During the last Valentine's day, Layla noticed Azar was working with less enthusiasm than usual. And this time it hadn't been from the lack of sleep (as the white dragon was well known for working days on end without pausing for rest). As she pondered why the city's most famed inventor was so down, a brief glance at the calendar gave her enough of a clue! Valentines Day! Azar had offhandedly mentioned it bothered him he didn't have a dragoness to spend time with, but he never seemed to let that get in the way of anything before. Layla figured this time his solitary life must have been getting to him more than usual. While it certainly wasn't her place to ask Azar about such things, she did have an idea that might just brighten his day. Giggling at her plan, Layla told her teacher that she had to go back to the college to finish some study work.
Goodbyes were said and Layla rushed to one of the potion labs at the college. Love potions could be made as potent or as light as the creator wished. And would it be so wrong if Azar happened to come across a single dragoness and both suddenly found some light affection for one another? Would a day of unexplainably wanting to spend time together be so bad? Who knew? Perhaps by the time the love potion would wear off, Azar and his newfound interest would find they were still interested in each other without any need of a potion? At the very least both could be happy. And more importantly Azar would get to have a good Valentines Day.
With the potion finished, Layla decided to play the part of true matchmaker by grabbing her bow and two arrows from her combat kit she had for non-magical combat practice at the school. She was a good shot and she could coat the arrows with the hastily made love potion. Azar quite commonly made brief walks through the plaza nearest to his workshop, especially on nice evenings such as the one that quickly approached. From occasionally traveling with him on those walks, Layla also knew there was an orange dragoness by the name of Jarana that Azar took glances at from afar. Though he never said anything, the elf knew there was a glint of interest in his eyes. Either he was too shy to approach her or he was afraid being approached by such a well-known and notable dragon might frighten the orange dragoness off. Either way, Jarana intended to fix that problem tonight.
With her gear set, Layla hurried to the plaza and paid her way to a third floor room at one of the inns. It gave her a perfect overview of the entire plaza and a much better shot. Not that it would be hard to miss a dragon, but she needed to hit just right between the scales if the potion was to seep in and take any effect. Even with such wide targets, the plaza was full of people. Various street performers did their best to keep their audiences entertained, families were shopping for food or other goods, some just heading out to eat, an over strained cart of Valentines Day chocolates was being hauled out for purchase. Quite a smart move for those last minute buyers who hadn't brought a gift to their loved ones yet.
Right on time, both dragons came wandering from around the corners from opposite sides of the plaza. Both appeared preoccupied with whatever it was they had come to do in the first place. Layla smiled and lined up her shot. She was quick with a bow and knew that at even this distance, she could hit both dragons within a few seconds of one another. When their eyes met, it would be a perfect Valentines Day. And if everything went over well, Layla had no problem of keeping her role as matchmaker secret from them. She even afforded herself a small giggle at the thought of giving herself the secret title while she drew back the first arrow. She'd hit Azar first and then go for the orange dragoness. The elf took a deep breath, and fired on the exhale. As soon as the first arrow was loose, she grabbed the next and aimed at the dragoness, drawing it back and about to let her fingers let it fly.
Several things happened at once in that very moment that could almost be considered comical if it didn't have such disasterous results for Layla's plans. As her finger began to slip from the bowstring, the strained cart of Valentines chocolates she saw earlier could bare its cargo no longer. A loud snap echoed through the plaza as the left side of the cart collapsed and spilled chocolates all over. The sound startled the young elf and threw her shot at the dragoness off. At that same time, the sound drew the attention of the famed white dragon who watched all those chocolates spill out from the cart. Right before Layla's "love arrow" hit him right in the rump and her second arrow glanced unnoticed off of one of the orange dragoness's hard spines and into the distance.
Layla was a competent and fairly skilled mage. And she was quickly on her way to becoming the second-best inventor in the city under Azar's tutelage. But even with her knowledge and skills she could still make mistakes. And love potions made in haste tended to have a few problems when used. Recovering from her missed shot, Layla watched in horror as Azar's blue eyes glazed over as he stared at the mountain of spilled Valentines Day chocolates. A smile spread across his face and he padded over to the chocolates. With no hesitation or regard to his surroundings, the white dragon began scooping up pawfuls of chocolate and wolfing it down.
The elf groaned and dropped her bow as she clutched at her hair in a mix of frustration and anguish. Her plans to be an unsung hero for her teacher had fallen apart in the most disasterous way. She had been so quick to whip up the potion and make get the dragon out of his slump that she'd neglected to dilute it enough so that she wouldn't literally fall in love with the first thing he saw. In fact, at the back of her mind she realized she hadn't properly ensured that the two dragons would BE the first thing they each saw after she had shot her arrows. As she mentally berated herself for the increasing flaws she was now seeing in her entire plan, a different problem was developing below in the plaza.
Still unaware, Azar was gorging himself on the chocolates. He feasted like he hadn't eaten in weeks. He was truly in love with the taste of this chocolate and his mind so hazed over that he couldn't see what a problem this was becoming. The fit dragon's belly bulged and grew inch by inch. The cart had been carrying enough chocolate to feed more than three or four dragons but it appeared that Azar intended to eat that much for himself. More and more people gasped in astonishment at the gluttonous dragon who's face looked more than happy to just eat and eat even as his frame fattened up.
Layla finally gathered herself enough to take a look at what was happening below and could only let out a gasp as she saw the teacher she respected and was friends with fatten up like a balloon from how fast and how much he was eating. HIs belly grew closer and closer to the ground and pushed out heavier against his legs. Even his limbs and tail were already looking thicker. What was in that chocolate anyways to do that to a dragon?! Biting her lip, Layla looked out across the plaza and found that her only relief was that the orange dragoness was long gone. Perhaps she didn't see what was happening to the city's most well-known dragon.
Layla knew what she had to do now. She packed her bow and made her way downstairs to the plaza. Given the length and strength of her love potion, Azar wasn't going to stop until he'd eaten every last bit of that chocolate. And his mind would be in a joyous haze through the rest of the night. He was only going to get fatter and rounder until everything ran its course. Thankfully, having been Azar's apprentice for quite some time now, she was used to having to help get Azar out of such embarrassing and humiliating situations while keeping his reputation mostly intact. Although this was the first time Layla herself had been the cause of such a situation.
As the dragon's belly began to push against the ground, Layla knew that come morning she was going to have a lot of explaining to do.
