Wow. Just, wow. now I see why velvety fur is used almost exclusively on anthro characters- as soon as I began to lay down some marks for the dark "Socks" of a fox, they immediately began to look like a monkey. Same technique works fine on the tail, though.

Lesson learned.

I'll probably play more with different fur types, or abstracted figures with more standard animal furs.
