Endless Realms bestiary - Pandemonium Box
Bestiary artwork for Endless Realms, a D&D-like "pen and paper" fantasy RPG I'm working for.
Some more dream realm creatures as requested by my art director, who gave me free reign to come up with some additional concepts - this one is basically a twist on a Pandora's Box-type monster.
While the dream realm is, by nature, a place of chaos, unbridled emotion and creativity, there are forces in place to keep things in check (some of which I'll be posting later) - my idea was that particularly destructive or malevolent dream entities could be sealed and locked away, and hidden safely in plain sight amongst the dreams of mortals: just another closed door in a hallway, a box of cereal in a cupboard, a locked dresser drawer. It could be just about anything, provided it is closed and sealed. Normally ignored by dreamers, a Pandemonium Box can attempt to exert a coercive force on those who encounter it in their dreams, drawing their attention and inciting their curiosity, and should the mortal succeed in forcing it open, the power is freed. Then I imagined the creature would be able to manifest corporeally, and continue manipulating its mortal minion into doing its bidding.
... Twisted madmen successfully brought down by the party of heroes, who would ever suspect the cracked urn on the mantle to be the real brains behind the attack?

Oh I got it. We will call it a room of torture. Their are three chests in a room, one's a mimic just waiting to take a bite out of you, and the other is one of these boxes. If you open the box, boom, it pulls you in and you have to make a deal with the being on the inside to get out. If you try to leave the room without opening the box, a large slime would fall from the ceiling before the mimic comes to engulf you, followed by the power being bringing the mimic into his box to still mess with the player character. forcing them to submit to his will and torment
