Alright, this photo is mostly because of the story behind it, and a lesson.
I know Ive been showing off all sorts of hawks that I work with, and everyone loves them and thinks they're wonderful and awesome and cute, and Im sure there are no few of you that think they woudl make wonderful pets.
RAPTORS ARE NOT PETS!!!
I nearly lost my eye today because raptors, no matter how they are trained, are still animals. They still have their own instincts and mannerisms and ways of doing what they want. Raptors are not domestic animals!
A bald eagle got me today, just one quick snap that is far too fast to really react in time to avoid, and this is the result. A bruise under my eye, a cut beside my tear duct, and a very, VERY thankful me that it wasn't my actual eye he grabbed! And this is one of the eagles we fly in the daily public flying demonstrations. He's perfectly safe when flying, but he still has those moments in his head when he needs to prove how tough he his.
So no, raptors are not pets at all, unless you like being wounded and scarred and mangled!
Oh, and I figure this doesnt quite contradict the rules on submissions, since there isnt really any real wound or gore here... Will gladly remove if its too much for people. Pansies.... *snickers*

Ooch.. yeah, good thing it didn't nip you just a bit farther over.. that would have been painful -and- handicapping. Then again, working with birds of prey you have to expect your going to get scraped up from time to time. Those birds'll do whatever, often with consequences not so good for those handling them! So, good luck with your work there, an here's hoping there's no more nasty bird-injuries! *hugs*
I'm glad to see a responsible, logical owner of a not-so-normal pet.
I see all these people with foxes and pythons and hawks and shit and they make it look like these animals are PETS.
It's nice to see someone who isn't going to pretty up an animal that could easily take out your eye and swallow it whole.

Well, Im not quite the owner...
But I fully agree. I cant stand how so many people make out these wild animals to be cute and cuddly and petlike, when in reality they really arent! Such is why I put these pictures up, as an example of why you dont keep a wild animal on your pillow!
Remember people, YOU'RE MADE OF MEAT!
