It doesn't look like I had hoped, couldn't get that hot orange i wanted so thusly it ended up like this. Just to avoid unwanted arguments the orange blade is super heated and the orange lines are the nodes that travel from a special pressure switch in the handle of the sword. The switch is where the mechs thumb would be so pressing on this switch will make the blade light up like a christmas tree from hell.
The Heat Sword is but not limited to:
Giving away your position
Cutting through enemy mech suits like a hot knife *cough*nopunintended*cough* through buttah
Piercing and carving entrances into the hull of enemy air ships, land ships, and ocean vessels
and just being all around scary looking
Well i have little else to say besides that.

Oh, did I give the impression it was a flame sword? Its like a heat knife but longer, bigger, and mech sized. Also I'm not good with flames, though the flame idea would be a good design for the part of the blade that won't be heated. Like a pilots peronalization to their mech. -shrugs- But like i said, I can't draw flames, I'm not that good with MS paint yet and I've been using it for almost 2 or so years.
Thanks anyway, it was a good idea and you gave me an idea of a form of personalization that can be taken for the sword for the pilots. Thanks for that little bit of inspiration.

and it looks even better. still, I have to wonder what it's made of that it can survive being heated to that temperature and still be tough and light enough to use, and why enemies just wouldn't build their mechs out of the stuff for protection, thus making this weapon useless...
rarity?
rarity?
Just a random alloy i made up its not a very original name... Mechanium. It can deal with extreme hit (can survive planet re-entry to an extent after that it'd have to be switched out) it can be heated and rapidly cooled with no negative affects and is rather durable. Most mech melee weapons and armor would be made of it. As for the sword being able to go into armor if they're made of the same thing, the joints would be target points not the armor itself.
If you're weapon isn't efficient enough to pierce armor you go for the least protected part of the body. The joints. A mech is just a much bigger version of knight armor... only robotic.

I try to give some flaws and weakness's a thought when i'm going to make something like a story that involves robots. I try to make big differences than stuff you'd see in Zoids or the gundam series.
1. The mechs in the universe i created are huge, with the exception of a few 'super mechs' that are actually gundam sized.
2. Each mech needs to have its own weakness or share a weakness.
3. Each weakness needs to be hard to get to but easily seen
4. This weakness has to be believable and register as being a real weak spot.
For instance. In Mobile Suit Gundam Zeonic front they stress to 'never turn your back to the opponent.' I started thinking... why? And after purposely turning by back it occured to me most of the shots hit the Mobile suits jump pack which is filled with fuel. Fuel is explosive so that is 'why' it was stressed to never reveal your back to the enemy when retreating or going against multiple opponents.
Sorry if that came across as a lecture. ^^;
