I'd meant to have posted the following 'photo-op' on "Throwback Thursday", but I fell a little behind schedule. I hope you don't mind the belated presentation...
This picture of me (sans beard and mustache) and my mother - Sheila Shell Martinez - was taken at Oriole Gardens (the condo complex in Margate, Florida, where we both lived in separate buildings) in June, 2002, a little over a-year-and-a-half after the old clubhouse burned down (due to a fire that began in its spa). The new clubhouse (background) was still being built, and wouldn't be open for another few months.
The reason I chose this particular 'photo-op' was because my mother had an unusual ritual she performed on my birthday (every March 1st); She'd call me up on my natal anniversary at precisely 6:30 AM, E.S.T. - which was the approximate time she gave birth to me - and wish me a "Happy Birthday!" Later in the day, Mom would treat me to a free birthday meal (either at the Outback Steak House in Coral Springs, Bobby Rubino's Ribs in Pompano Beach, or at the Bombardier Restaurant in West Palm Beach - the latter of which no longer exists).
Sheila was quite a talented person in her own right. She took up judo in the 1960s; she worked for famed Egyptologist Dr. Bob Brier in the 1980s; and throughout her entire life, she was an extremely skilled artist (rendering oil paintings, watercolor art, sculptures, and more). You can check out another 'photo-op' of her with samples of her artwork at https://www.furaffinity.net/view/9067183/ .
I hope to post a few of samples of her artwork (between now and my impending birthday) in her memory. Since this is "Fur Affinity", I'll try to make sure that some of the images that she'd rendered will feature animals in them.
This current 'photo-op' of me and Mom will remain in my 'Gallery' until July, 2017 - when it will be transferred to my 'Scraps' section.
