Nulh are extradimensional refugees, parasitic invaders from another world. Fleeing some unspecified catastrophe, they hitched rides into our universe on errant ships in FTL-space. Each nulh brings with it a tiny pocket of their home physics- this pocket clashes with our own local physics, generating an unstable "flux bubble" that can produce exotic radiation and EM interference, resulting in unpleasant side-effects on nearby beings (such as hallucinations, vertigo, and paranoia).

Technological aids can be used to both suppress and channel these flux bubbles, allowing more even-natured nulh to coexist with natives to our universe.
