They are both male, Yvon just looks super effeminate as he is transgender. The other one is Barrus.

Basic background of characters. Barrus is a former slave whom became pirate/smuggler to obtain his freedom. Yvon is the son of a Brothel Madam who smothers him in part because he was a sickly child. Yvon ran away to get some freedom from his over protective mother by sneaking onto the ship of a drug smuggler his mother did business with (Barrus) . Yvon stole some fabric from the cargo and used it to start making his way on the mainland. A couple years later they run into each other, barrus recognizing the distinct fabric that'd been stolen off his ship on one of Yvon's clothing items. Yvon's mother sends goons to bring him hom, but Barrus softhearted as he is helps hide Yvon but also imparts on him that he has to earn his keep. The two of them eventually falling for each other from there : D
