no really, the lighting lends so much to the emotionality, in a way that requires a real storyteller's eye. Is it done with digital screentones? I've just been starting to get a feel for them and your use is so deft (if that's what you are using). Keep on sharing!

As for technical stuff/what I used to draw them - the entire image was done in Paint Tool Sai 2 beta. The top half and portraits on the bottom right are done with the pencil brushes I made for this software, here are the specs: http://marcianek.deviantart.com/art.....shes-593860781
I mostly used nr, 1, 2 & 8 for linearts and 12 and 14 for shadows.

The bottom left desert scene was drawn mostly with pencil brush nr 1, since it can do fairly clean black lines too - and for screentones I just downloaded some plain scan of dot screentone stock, pasted it on a multiply layer above the image and erased the excess.
