When they redid the ride after the second version everybody hated, they made figment the main part, the ride also wasn’t given a huge budget for the redo. My best guess is that figment literally skunking the riders was done to be a cheap laugh.

Ooh yes. You can get a bottle of skunk oil on places like Amazon or your average hunting store (its used as a cover scent for hunters). It's super stinky stuff. Like one where you gotta put the bottle in a smell proof bag or box to contain it.

i went on that ride in 2006 and i think it might be partly responsible for me becoming a mustelid furry eventually, if skunks didn't get me in a tizzy before that it certainly exacerbated the trend
