"Wait wait wait, lemmie get this straight. I was attacked by that monster the other night... because Gabe picked up a weird book that same day?"
The woman, Abigail, let go of my arm and backed off a step as she continued.
"Not just any weird book. A forbidden book of demonic magic. And it wasn't just coincidence that he found it. It has a will of it's own that was deliberately trying to be picked up by him."
I scoffed as I leaned up against the wall, listening to all this.
"Right. Magic thinking books. That sounds reeeeeally plausible. And I can tell you right away that Gabriel would be no more believing of the idea then I am right now. I honestly laughed a bit when he brought that thing home from the bookstore. He told me he only got it just because it looked interesting."
Abigail then looked at me as if I was a child who just said something stupid.
"Oh really? An old, leather bound book stained the color of blood with ancient runes on the cover and tied up tightly in chains? That just comes off as "interesting" to you?"
I had to admit, putting it altogether at once, it did sound incredibly suspicious.
"Well...when you say it like that..."
