My friend Schirm and I have been decorating the kitchen windows with wax pencils, and so for the first art of the New Year, we decided to go with a Coyote Café theme. It's kind of an inside joke because it seems that the smell of my cooking has attracted the attention of the local "Pack."

Because the kitchen windows leak air, cooking smells ooze outside and down the driveway. Roy does an awful lot of cooking, more then Noah, my other tenet, so the atmosphere over that part of the driveway smells, well, delicious. That smell attracts the local coyotes, who prowl around at night hoping to find something to eat. That's why I drew the coyote gal with the sandwich. That's why Roy drew Muse as a short order chief.
Louis L'armour knocked around Pasadena CA? Hmmm... Now there's a Pasadena Texas too, so that might have been his town, but I'm not certain. Pasadena CA was founded in 1872-73 and has since grown into one of Southern California's most recognized cities. I just kind of dig the idea that I might have shopped in the same supermarket that he did.
I guess one might believe we live in the "Wild" West out here in Pasadena with all the critters who live up here in the hills. I know of one pack of coyotes that ranges up through the hills, from the top of "Wildcat Canyon," which runs by the house, all the way to the bottom of the gully near the Rose Bowl. I often hear their acoustic "Footprint" as they set up their howling sessions. They move from East to West, and when they get to the bottom of the canyon, they set up a noisy "Powwow" where even the puppies get into it.
