Continuing my latest 'sweeps month' (February, 2017), here is another 'photo-op' (taken by my brother Glenn, with the camera feature of his smartphone) for "Throwback Thursday"...
Last year, I'd posted a couple of digital snapshots (taken by my sibling) at the Pompano Beach pier (which you can still see in my 'Scraps' section). Among those 'photo-ops' were several of brown pelicans - who usually hang around, looking for a 'handout' from the fishermen or any visiting tourists in the area...
Well, in January, 2017, Glenn and I took another stroll along said pier, where we saw more pelicans (as well as other avian creatures, like seagulls, pigeons, grackles, and sandpipers). One pelican, in particular, was perched upon the handrail on the north side of the pier - looking down into the churning waters of the Atlantic Ocean, where hundreds of small fish were swimming close to the surface.
My brother decided to take a picture of this pelican from a safe distance - nearly five feet away. But somehow, this bird was aware of his intentions, and took off from the handrail. Glenn and I both thought this was going to be a missed opportunity... until a strong gust of wind below the pier picked up the brown pelican, and he landed back on the handrail... now, just two feet away from my bro! And, to complete the effect, the bird turned its head, so he was directly facing the smartphone/camera!
This unusual situation couldn't have been planned any better! So, Glenn took two shots of the brown pelican (this posted one being the better of the two). Let's see if any of YOU can capture wildlife this close, under similar circumstances!
This 'photo-op' (and others currently appearing in my 'Gallery') will eventually be transferred to my 'Scraps' section, as of July, 2017...
