cinco de mayo is actually the battle of puebla.
Mexico defeated a heavily (and considered the most powerful army of the world in these moments.. according to historians.. ) french contingent. (sent by napoleon )
they were forced to retreat, unfortunately, they got heavy reinforcements ( 3X times) , Mexico's forces also ran out of ammo , and to make it worse their best general ( General Zaragoza ) died of illness, thus in the end, a few months later, Mexico had to surrender.
you can check the Wiki for basic information, such as the aproximate forces
(4,700 veterans, 100 milicians and 300 indians armed with machetes) versus 6048 french soldiers of the 99th regiment of Zuavos,
Mexican armies commanded by General Zaragoza in 3 forts ( the main forts being Loreto and Guadalupe ) vs The Count of Lorencez
Mexican forces were weakly armed and had very fewpieces of artillery ( some books I've read only mention at most 15-20 artillery units, including a 68mm canon. the french had way more. but couldnt use them efficiently during that battle .

I just realized that I had faved this pic without commenting on it. I don't know what else I can say other than I love this pic! You don't see much done with Latin American folkloric attire in furry art so kudos to you for your work. Many praises for the skunk gal and the amazing work you did with her dress. And that little bunny is just so adorable!
Well, this one was a commission and I don't sell prints of commissions, however I will keep the theme in mind and maybe do more art like this in the future! :D I am glad you like it!
My husband is from a Texas border town, and has been educating me here and there on some Mexican culture. I'm sure he could help me with some ideas. :)
