Eons ago, the society of Daemons was founded on the world of Inferno, with the Infernal Cardinals ruling over their respective castes. When Pride and Greed became too hubristic over their position, their underlings over threw them. In a matter of years, the Infernal Cardinals were all but extinct, with a few remaining in the house of Wrath, some in the house of Gluttony, and but one in the house of Lust. That last Cardinal of Lust was the Daemon Lord Asmodeus, the Prince of Desires.

Asmodeus has kept a low profile in Inferno for millennia, preferring to avoid direct conflict, occasionally travelling to other worlds to bewitch civilizations, so as to claim their lusting souls upon their demise to continue acquiring power. That was until the Shadowlands War, where Giovanni dared to do what had never been done before - personally retrieve a soul that had been claimed by Asmodeus from the depths of Hell, in order to save a friend's life.
