Some people and creatures are just not cut out for certain jobs; a pig farmer would probably make a bad dragonslayer and a cow would be a bad mount for said occupation. And in this case, hiring a dragon and a thief as tribute collectors, seems like an equally bad idea.
Well it was worth a try. I'll do the collecting myself again in the future or I maybe hire more competent personnel.
This picture shows TheLeonard and Rhos in Tarkus' lair. Delivering two chests filled with unknown contents. Probably tribute from some local towns. Never use a dragon to deliver a chest full of treasure; seems like Rhos has quite the hard time parting with that chest and it seems like Tarkus is not too thrilled about that.
I really like the artist's take on the interior of Tarkus temple, including the lighting coming from the ceiling.
It all looks so rough and worn and kinda frustrating, apart from the scattered treasure that piles up everywhere.

They are playing a dangerous game...
This is absolutely gorgeous! The background and lighting create a really vivid atmosphere. I can't help but wonder about the story of how Tarkus came to live there... Hopefully there was at least as much dwarf crushing involved as in Smaug's own story.

They do! Thanks Diablo.
Really happy that you like how it turned out and I agree, that especially background and atmosphere of the picture are really knocking it out of the park.
As to how he got his claws on this temple, that's a lengthy story. But it sure did involve squishing a couple people.

Personally I'm just surprised Tarkus even considered letting both a thief- known for taking gold from its rightful owners- and a dragon- similarly known for taking gold from its rightful owners but definitely in no way a dishonorable thief (pleasedon'tkillme)- anywhere near his tribute chests.
And on another note, this is some really nice artwork! Kudos!

Well you know how things like this happen. Obviously Tarkus outsourced the hiring process to an agency and they posted job descriptions on local blackboards and held all the interviews with the applicants.
Now I don't know why THEY thought a dragon and a thief would be qualified. I just know that this agency is now officially out of business... I read in the newspaper that a big dragon jumped on their office building, spat fire on it and ate all the employees; unfortunately their insurance does not cover that.
Thanks a lot dracodare~

I must say M'Lord, it must be particularly difficult having to accumulate so much hard earn wealth and constantly having to deal with other drakes and thieves who seem to think that grabbing as much as they can possibly carry is as easy and tempting as swiping an apple from a tree.
I feel I must apologise on behalf of the lower race that is humanity for giving you such inconveniences and pray you will be ever so merciful and forgiving of our trespasses, O' mighty destroyer.
Great piece here. Archir sure did a fine job portraying the ever daring duo and, of course, the great Tarkus himself. I'll be sure to give a watch and fave as well!

Oh you don't know the extend of insolence I have to deal with every day. Thieves, assassins, people who think they have a claim on my time or my wealth. It's quite irritating.
But in my endless wisdom and benevolence I find the power to forgive you your countless transgressions day after day. I'm not as ignorant as to deny that the lower races certainly have a manifold of uses for me, after all.

Thanks Sagas for the nice comment. Took me some time to reply to it I'm afraid.
Happy you enjoy the picture so much.

So, it would be really flattering if like, someone would make this a background for both their monitors. Like, dual monitor background.
That certain someone would certainly get certain full resolution files, to make certain, that it would certainly look good on certain dual monitor setups.
Certainly certain.

Stealing all the gold, one chest at a time. Tsk tsk. You ought to hire some professionals. No wait, don't do that. My shining scales require that I inform you of the error of your ways. Stealingiswrongandyoushouldnotbesuchagrumpybluedragon.
Great pic, Tarkus! As they say, it is very atmospheric. I see that temple has got some wear on it.

It's not stealing! It's like a tax... and I just collect it.
But you are right. I should look for better personnel. Probably take something that's very loyal, very diligent and not at all interested in treasure.

Thanks a lot Qtho~
Yeah I insisted on the temple looking all worn and roughed up. After all a giant dragon has been living in it for hundreds of years~

You always have something to criticize, do you? I'd say it's a smart business decision, you say it's lazy. Just you wait. I'll show you :I

Thanks Drakesapphire!
How about this: Tarkus sitting in the center of the picture. Looking all proud and regal. Sun shining on his scales, flowers blooming, birds chirping.
And Drake will be right behind him, where nobody can see him. We can state in the description, that you are behind him, though.
Just kidding :3
We can see about that~
