holy shit yes, FA's Dog Face Syndrome is another salty pain in my left buttcheek. it gets really crazy/creepy when an obvious doggy-handicapped person tries to draw a human and they end up with that same bizarre face with the weird lil nose and the c mouth. you know what i mean i'm sure
Man, regarding FA's dog-face syndrome, its most evident to me when they try to draw big cats???????? Like its so weird im like ok did you look at the animal? or did you just look at someone else's art who also draws dogs a lot? FA is just so cannibalistic in that sense. No one learns to draw things by looking at real life. They just learn to draw things by looking at other peoples artwork which is SO BAD for understanding construction. What ends up happening is these styles just warp and devolve into particularly bad versions of themselves and no one draws anything that resembles the actual thing they are trying to draw IDK.
FUCKIN A dude you hit the nail right on the head.
real talk, this "artistic cannibalism" is such a huge handicap for artists. if you get in too deep, you'll have a shit of a time getting out of it. like, other people's stylized work is their own interpretation of the foundations we are all supposed to start from. starting from someone else's interpretation might seem like a good idea since you're borrowing from their skillset, but then you're also adopting all of their faults and totally lacking understanding to how the good parts are good to begin with. it's shitty and it eventually gets to the point where everything is a formless, mushy glob that gets the "generic" label slapped onto it because fuckin everyone does it now. that's why even the people who encourage you to study other's work are sure as fuck to tell you to study from life too, because otherwise you're limiting yourself. and hey, no excuses, google images is free and full of pictures of cat's faces
so bad, dude. so so bad. Dog Face Syndrome will demolish your artistic progress if you let it, and too many people let it.

i'm sorry but is this basically you saying "it's their style" because if that's the case then *very loud shrug*
maybe i'm a pretentious scuz but i like when my animals, even the ones with human bodies, look like what they're supposed to lol. you're free to have your subjective opinion (as if you need my approval for that bwahahah) but i personally don't like my artwork littered with easy-to-fix anatomical mistakes

I find myself just saying LITERALLY over and over as i read this through, ahaaaa! My boyfriend does this thing where finds an image and he shows me and is like "they're really good at rendering but they don't understand why they put this aspect of the image there, and so it looks weird." AND STRANGELY ENOUGH ITS USUALLY THE CLAVICLE! he's like "ok they put lines on the throat and a dip at the end but they don't understand why it needs to be there, they just kinda did it like, 'hey this is the thing you put here right?'" and guaRENTEED it's from limiting learning resources to very characterized artistic styles they want to reproduce. If you want to take on someone's style because you like it, go ahead and imitate it's key features, but also be open to study of real life things!! it's so beneficial like dam
SAME LMAO
that's such a weird phenomenon. like, there's so many ~popufur~ artists who can render and light and paint like the dickens, but they're at a total loss when it comes to making something actually structurally look good. i was taught the opposite - you fuckin fix your draftsmanship before you fuss with rendering because that is what will ultimately communicate your ideas. BUT SOME PEOPLE DON'T and they get comfy making $500 a pop so why improve? el oh el
oh hell yeah, they just saw someone using it and were like "well time to put some lines here" like......... you guys know that the collarbone is a BONE, right? xcuse me, nvm they don't, because they never took the time to learn!!

It just especially bothers me when folks give things the wrong noses >w> It's such a great w ay to make animals different from each other and show how different they are from one another, but canine noses on rabbits and squirrels and stuff gets on my nerves. I always look at pictures of the real thing before trying to draw an animal, so seeing things that are really incorrect bothers me >w>
