Kai was born and raised on Melemele Island, near Hau'oli City's beachfront. Her mother and father work at a hotel and store near the same beachfront. Being a Mareanie meant that many couldn't get near her and/or had to be extremely cautious. Kai did not mind it, for she understood why. She made a few friends to the other storefront owners and residents. Kai works part time at her mother's store, serving malasadas to those who enter. Her mother taught her how to make malasadas, and hers are sometimes the best on the menu.
Kai is a somewhat shy girl. People are cautious around her, and she's cautious around others. She finds herself hiding behind her hair a lot to avoid the eyes of others. She opens up once you seem to open up to her. Kai enjoys being near the water and Melemele Island herself. She always wanted to go to Melemele Meadow but is too slow to make the journey. She can extend her tendril hair down to cover herself if need be, and her nervous habit is stroking one too much.
I finally posted her. My Mareanie gal. I think I did a pretty good job with her. I tried to make her cute, hopefully I succeeded.

Hey! I gave the same name to my Primarina in Pokemon Sun! glad to know I wasn't just being a pretentious weirdo using Google Translate for my Pokemon names...!
in my Gmod Pokemon stories, my Kai Mele is a kind, sweet social sweetheart... and also a demented, Mengele-esque mad scientist, with a passion to create better versions of existing creatures, and little to no regard for right or wrong.
the creepiest thing about him is that these contradictory character traits aren't any kind of "Jeckyll and Hyde" duality type deal. no matter what he's doing, he's never not without a song in his heart and a smile on his face! he speaks to you with the exact same tone of voice whether he's giving you a warm, friendly hug, or firing up the Femur Breaker!
... also he Really likes Sugarland, and will sing their songs as he operates. so if you hear someone singing "Tennessee", "Everyday America," or "We Run" coming from the distant halls of any building that he's set up shop in, turn around and Run! Never look back!!
