3d Model - Pistola Automatico Mod.W Gen1 (download links)
As promised, the original Gen1, chambered in 9mm Largo. Since this was created long before any major wars, it has a more complex external appearance compared to the Gen2 (which created right before the start of WWII, which explains its simplistic appearance). Firearm design around the early to mid 20th century tend to follow the same pattern where more complex and elegant looking designs were created when there were no time of war, then get simpler when the need for firearms skyrockets during wartime.
It's more expensive manufacture costs (compared to the Gen2) thwarted chances of it being used during WWI in high volumes (though it saw some limited use by anyone fortunate get their mitts on one). Like mentioned in the back story, the Gen2 internals found their way into the Gen1 frame since this version was noticeably more comfortable to handle, although the slide, frame, trigger, and grips are not compatible on the other generation (i.e. you cant put a Gen2 slide on a Gen1 frame).
Specifications:
9×23 Largo
10 round single stack single feed proprietary magazine
Simple blowback with billet machined frame and slide
180mm long (7"). 100mm barrel (3.93")
Post and notch sights machined into the slide
Arbitrary back story (copied from the Gen2 submission)
The Pistola Automatico ModW (Automatic Pistol Model W) was created in the early 1900s in Spain. Originally chambered for the 9mm Largo (9×23) as a simple, cheap, high capacity pistol that can be easily concealed and provided adequate stopping power in comparison to small rounds typically found in compact pistols.
This model, using the higher velocity 7.62, was created in the mid 1930's as an cheaper, compact, and higher capacity alternative to the TT pistol as the Generation 2. The Gen2 featured a star on the grip and simpler machining to reduce the cost, but made the pistol look bulky and the grips were not as comfortable as the Gen1. What usually happens is that the Gen2 internals are put onto a Gen1 frame and slide to get the power of the 7.62 with the comfort and style of the Gen1.
Production continued despite low volume in favor of more established pistols and 3 generations were created with minimal internal changes. Gen1 is this the 9mm Largo version made until the round was eventually obsoleted. Gen2 is the 7.62 version with simplified machining to lower cost. Gen3 is a modernized version that has a more modular and comfortable exterior.
