An idea I’d had a year ago that I originally did for a printmaking class. I finally took it to digital for prints I’m doing for a con.
While this piece isn’t perfect, I’m incredibly pleased with it. Like Steven, I don’t really know where I fit in, but I have a family I’ve chosen and they let me know I’m cared for. Your family doesn’t have to be your mom and dad, or even blood. It can be friends who’ve made you a better person, people who’ve kept you safe, someone you know like the back of your hand and you know they’ll be there for you even in the worst of times.
It helps to have a family to come home to.

I live very close by this rule. Almost none of my family accepts me - I'm the only LGBT member in my immediate family, and then it takes crossing a few branches of the tree to find anyone like me. I'm also emotional and empathetic, something my living family doesn't do well. So I've had to find others to be close with, to share my life with, to find my own self with. I'm lucky to have the very few people that I do, and I trust them with my life, just as they trust me with theirs.
These people that I went and found, who WILLINGLY took me in, KNOWING who I am, these people are family.
I simply just don't believe in the notion that "you should love your (blood) family, because they're your FAMILY!". I've had very little reason to love the people that raised me, other than the fact that they've let me live with them for free after the age of 18. If I hadn't found my other family, my life would be NOWHERE near as enriched as it is - I wouldn't have made it long enough to even get to this point in life.
I believe so much more in found family than blood family. If your blood family loves you emotionally, if they care for you and if they support you fully and help you be happy, ESPECIALLY if you're LGBT+, then I am very happy for you. You won't have to do the years of searching that I had to go through. You have happiness already inside your home.
I had to get happiness's current address, mail her, wait on a reply, send her a key to my house, fuss with USPS about losing the key, and then FINALLY drag her into my house to get her there.
tldr; Found family is almost always best family.
