Acies is a harpy, the exact species of which I have yet to fully wright up. When she was newly born(or hatched as the case may be), a mage snatched her away to his lab. Here he destroyed her voice box and put out her eyes.

After tiring of learning of her physical form he began teaching her how to use her mind as a tool. This was, of course, after several precautions were put into place.

Eventually she earned her freedom, so to speak, but I will spare you the details of that gruesome event.
