Title: Danganronpa α: Ready Set Despair - Chapter 5
Falling for a Difficult Truth
Two bodies have turned up, and someone is coated in their blood. It's obvious who did it... but is it really? Or does this incident have an even darker secret lurking in the shadows? The sudden and brutal deaths have left a dark cloud hanging over those who remain... Will the truth prevail? Or will that cloud entirely consume them, thrusting the last few survivors of this Killing School Break into a deep, deep pit of despair...? The fifth trial of the Killing School Break has reached a terrifying and unwanted conclusion...
Monokuma File #5
Spiri "Blu" Gladier, the Ultimate IT
Cause of death is impalement. Time of death is around 7:30am. Victim fell from the roof onto a spiked fence. Multiple impalement wounds are present vertically across the center of the torso.
Monokuma File #6
Thrakos, the Ultimate Swordsman
Cause of death is impalement. Time of death is around 9:30am. Victim was found pinned to wall by their own blade. Deep cuts are present on the inside of the fingers of both hands. There are also bruises on the stomach and a deep gash on the left arm, likely caused in a self-defense situation.
Monokuma: So, looks like you've finally figured it out! Go on, Quenny, do that thing you usually do where you make it suuuuper obvious what happened. I love that part. It's like listening to your students give a presentation on all they've learned. It could bring a tear to a proud teacher's eye~
: *dead silence*
Monokuma: ...Hey! I said give your closing argument!
Quenny: *more silence*
Monokuma: GRAAAAR! GIVE YOUR CLOSING ARGUMENT BEFORE I EXECUTE YOU, TOO!
Quenny: *even more silence*
Monokuma: Man, he's acting like the most important person in the world to him just DIED or something. Ugh. You people and your emotions. Alright, somebody else do it then. Otherwise you all fail. And that'd just suck.
Uhm... I'll do it... Er... H-here's everything that happened in this case! .. I think..
Closing Argument
It's not difficult to believe that we're all struggling here with our emotions. This, of course, applies to the two victims in this case as well, Spiri and Thrakos. The victims met on the roof this morning, and had an argument. Over what, I couldn't say. Their argument became heated, ultimately leading to an all out fight.
Along with dealing some bruises, Spiri managed to get Thrakos' sword away from him, and landed a single cut onto his arm. But after that point, the unthinkable happened. Thrakos retaliated, running Spiri through. As his body fell limp, Thrakos' mind likely went awash with panic as he realized what he had done. So late in the game, it was obvious he needed to do something, and fast.
Thinking quickly on his feet, he lifted the body and tossed it over the edge of the building, aiming below for a spiked fence. Whether intentionally or not, in doing so, Thrakos left telltale signs of the possibility of suicide behind at the scene. Using a towel from the nearby pool area, he cleaned up the blood from the murder scene, and went back to his room for a change of clothes. Once changed and cleaned of blood, he wrapped up his bloody clothes and the towel in a towel from his bathroom, and dropped them into the laundry chute. This was to prevent any blood traces from being left behind in the chute.
Today, luckily for him, was laundry day, and the bloodied clothes were rushed into his washing machine by the attending monomaid. Whether or not the monomaid knew it was an accomplice in this murder is unclear.
With the bloodied evidence gone, Thrakos was ready to continue his hastily devised deception. He headed to Quenny's room, knocking on the door and announcing his worry for Spiri, as he wasn't acting right, and not in the good sense. While all of this was happening, however, Thrakos' plan had an entirely different effect, which worked greatly in his favor.
Below, where Spiri's body had landed, stood
, an unfortunate victim of an unknown framing attempt. When Spiri's body landed, it's easy to understand that his blood was splattered everywhere, including on Teryx. In a panic, and without thinking, Teryx removed Spiri's body, coating himself in even more of Spiri's blood. Realizing the consequences of being deemed a murderer, he quickly made his escape from the scene, still coated in the first victim's blood. Where he went at this point is unclear, but one can safely assume he was desperately thinking of somewhere to go to clean the blood from his body.
Spiri's body was discovered shortly afterwards by myself and Quenny, causing the body discovery announcement to be made. This was even further evidence supporting Thrakos' feigned innocence. The body discovery announcement only goes off once three people had found the body, yet only two people had found the body, though we didn't think of this at the time. This lead us to first come to the conclusion that Thrakos had been the first to find the body, perhaps catching Teryx in the act, instead of Teryx being an unfortunate witness.
Joining with the others, barring Teryx and Thrakos, we began our investigation into the murder, first believing it to be a suicide, as Thrakos' earlier words to Quenny had made it seem. During this time, Thrakos' deception continued to make the situation more and more complicated, even without his knowledge or involvement.
Teryx, in an attempt to hide from the searching group, ducked into a storage closet, coating the knob in blood. He had previously left marks on the elevator button on the first floor, and the button to the third floor, which were some of his very few saving graces in this trial. Once inside, his panic managed to cause him to dislodge some cleaning material from above, landing on his head and knocking him out for a time.
Meanwhile, Thrakos was on the fifth floor, a growing guilt permeating his body. Whether the murder or Sparkles' death, or even a combination of the two, were eating away at him more was unclear, but what was clear is his ultimate decision. Using his own sword, he pierced himself in the chest, slashing his fingers as he pulled the blade further into himself, pinning himself to the wall. Once the blade was halfway in, his body fell limp, and our second victim's body was created.
While the investigation continued, the laundry room was investigated. While nothing seemed out of place to an eye that didn't know what it was looking for, there was actually a vital clue in this room. The pool towel in Thrakos' washing machine. Previously, Thrakos had expressed a dislike for swimming, begging the question why a pool towel would be in his washing machine. As all of you know, it's impossible to deposit your own laundry in someone else's chute.
At the same time that Thrakos' body was discovered, Teryx's bloodied closet was found, with him inside. He was held in custody while the investigation continued. We originally believed that Teryx had killed Spiri out of a grudge created when Spiri revealed his secret, and Thrakos was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. However, the wounds caused by the spiked fence and Thrakos' blade didn't match up. We then thought that Thrakos had killed Spiri, and Teryx had killed him in revenge. The bruising and gash on Thrakos' arm supported this conclusion. It had lead us to believe that Teryx and Thrakos had fought. However, that was not the case, as it was Spiri and Thrakos who exchanged blows.
The largest piece of evidence in Teryx's favor includes lack of any blood on the floor where Thrakos was found dead, including on the hilt of Thrakos' blade. Additionally, the blood on him had been much too dry, were he to have been Thrakos' killer.
In the end, it has come to light that Thrakos is the killer in both of these incidents. While his deception had initially worked, he left behind one too many clues proving his guilt. And that is why, in this case, Teryx is innocent, and Thrakos is guilty of both murders!
Monokuma: Upupupu... excellent. Right on the money again, you guys! Now, unfortunately, there's nobody for me to execute this time around, since Thrakos decided to wuss out, so I guess we'll skip straight to your reward! Also, since I'm sure most of you are DYING to know, I also included their argument in there. Y'know. For funsies.
The digital panel at each stand lit up. On it, the familiar template presented after every single trial appeared...
Last Argument:
Spiri: You like wallowing in your sorrows up high too, huh?
Thrakos: Why are you even up here?
Spiri: What do you mean?
Thrakos: You have nothing to be depressed about.
Spiri: How do you figure that?
Thrakos: Quenny's still alive. You still have someone to live for.
Spiri: Yeah, but that doesn't eliminate the possibility of him or me dying.
Thrakos: Tch. Well it's still just a possibility. How the hell do you think I feel.
Spiri: How do you think we all feel?
Thrakos: You shut up. You have no fucking idea what I'm going through.
Spiri: Yeah, I do. You're hurting. But you need to look past it and move forward. otherwise we'll never get out of here.
Thrakos: Just look past it? yeah, sure, okay, I'll just get over his death. Fuck off. Maybe I should kill Quenny just so you know how I feel.
Spiri: I'll watch you burn.
Thrakos: What, you want to go too?
Spiri: Stop acting like a retard. It's this kind of attitude that got him killed in the first place.
Spiri's Final Thoughts
Why did I say that? What the hell is wrong with me? I.. probably deserve this. Sorry Thrakos. Sorry Quenny. Sorry guys. Guess I'll just be watching from now on. Don't give in to despair, okay? I have faith in you... okay?
Thrakos' Final Thoughts
What... did I do? Heh.. I'm fucking stupid. There's no way that's going to work, is it? I know him... I'm so dead. Haha... yeah. I'll save them the trouble. Sorry Spiri. I'm sorry I'm such an emotional idiot... I guess I'll have a chance to apologize to you directly soon. Though I guess... I won't be able to go where both of you went, huh? Hehe... I'm so fucking stupid.
