It had stood there since that faithful day. The Germans tearing across endless acres of the permafrost, intent on making one last counter offensive to break the will of the people. Lost in the heat of combat, the crew of 217 had been camping out at a local village, trying to regain their bearings on where they were. The local farm hands had come running back into town, warning the Germans were coming and looking to destroy all in their path. 217 stood its ground, against impossible odds, trading shot for shot with the invading forces late into the night.
Immobilized and badly beaten, when the morning light came to the town, 217 stood alone. The Germans had been halted. A sea of carnage and husks lay before the brave tank, never to move again from where it made its valiant last stand. No one dared to move the brave guardian, forever standing watch over its mountain home.
Day two, environment, and a bit of flavor text. Done entirely with digital pencil brushes and shading graphite, I had a lot of fun working on this one. I'll try and do some digitizing to make it full color and pen detailed later during my work time after lunch.
Tank is a T-34-85, whole image took about 90 minutes to do. (will be moved to scraps tomorrow)
