What lies between life and death? That would be the Faded.
In Scar Eden, those of life who have met their end at the hands of a Death Element lose both their Mind and Spirit: resulting in a Wilt, a sentient zombie that only retains muscle memory and begins a new life as a walking corpse. However in the rare circumstance that a living being retains their body AND mind, they become a Faded. A dead body with the sentience and memories of their past life but a loss of spirit; makes for a somewhat cold, distant and aloof personality. With a lack of emotional connection, the Faded are often categorized as undead beings; but with their mind intact they have no need to consume flesh of the dead, allowing for difficult but plausible integration amidst the living.
