Finished finally for the student show. I didn't win anything, but they want it back for the summer show.

The maquettes (this one and Haze) are all made out of super sculpey mixed with black and white sculpey III to make it grey.
The arms and head for my senior project (and later the legs and tail) are plasticina, a sulfur based clay that doesn't dry out and crack. And it takes detail very well. The only problem with it is that it need to be heated up to be workable and soft. But I have a heat gun and a make-shift heat box to use... and i burn myself with the plasticina sometimes when it starts to melt >-< Ouch.

ok, cool, I'll have to keep that in mind. I was thinking of doing a scultpure myself for one of my classes, but the clay drying out and all really made me think twice about it. But, now that I know about this stuff I can see if I can actually take this idea somewhere ^^ btw, is that super sculpey stuff easy to get? or one of thoughs special order kinda things?
Super Sculpey is easy to get. It's easy to use too. Dries out over time, but you can bake it in an oven to harden it. Should be able to get the sculpey at any art store(maybe even Michael's or JoAnn's), it's more expensive then plasticina by a couple of bucks.
But, I wouldn't recommend plasticina for a sculpture. I'm using it because I'm not keeping the arms, head, legs and tail, I'm using them for a mold.
Regular Super Sculpey is flesh colored or pink. I would recommend mixing it, cos it makes it easier to see detail and the pink is semi-transparent. Also, make sure you have a good armature underneath... cos the sculpey will be heavy.
