You know, I would ride one of these. I'd place myself in a cute little uniform, climb on top of that and fire away as I plowed through the city, crushing the opponents one by one. They'll scream as they're stuck under the might tank and become one of my corpse corps. I'll screech with laughter as I light a cigarette, ashing into the skull's nose socket.
$10 says those corpses are all the poor bastards that drove Shermans up against Tiger tanks.
I mean, really. After the first time or two, couldn't we have built a bigger, better tank? Nope. We just out-produced them. Losing 4 Shermans for each Tiger destroyed was a-okay... Those poor bastards. Riding a Sherman took balls, especially as the German tanks got progressively bigger and harder to kill.
Wow, tangent.
in any case. Nice job on this one.

More or less, but that's kind of a skewed way to look at it.
In WW2, US Army doctrine was infantry oriented, and tanks acted as heavy support for the infantry. They were meant to tackle machine gun nests, field artillery and infantry formations, as well as be mobile obstruction-demolishers. Most US tanks of the time, especially the Sherman, weren't designed with tank vs. tank in mind; tank destroyers - fast, lightly armored tracked vehicles equipped with extremely powerful guns - were, and they were designed to snipe enemy armor beyond the range of retaliation. Unfortunately, since German tactics of the time were armor-oriented, it meant that Shermans often shared battlefield with their bigger, tougher cousins and usually came out the worse for it.
Besides, it takes time to develop a new armored fighting vehicle, especially if you want it to be effective. Months, even years can pass before this occurs, and in the meantime you still have the war to fight. Shermans were extensively upgraded throughout the war, and many new tanks were introduced to help counteract earlier failings, but US armor design and doctrine didn't assume the form we're familiar with until after the war.
Still, I agree - those guys that rode the Shermans into battle had guts, and their contribution to ending the war was invaluable.

My first thought was that Granfaloon (The giant ball of naked people in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, got renamed "Legion" in later games) has now mobilized an entire army from his Naked... >.>
Then again, I'm also running on around 4.5 hours of sleep over three days, so... yeah... ^_^;;

Heh, if by deep inspiration you mean daydreaming about zombies, then pitting zombies against a tank (the favored mobile weapon of ground warfare)... the first few hundred zombies didn't do so hot, but they tend to eventually clog things up...
I need to redo this picture in a little more grandiose style, befitting the depth and profoundness of its subject matter.
