NEW YEAR NEW FURSONAS (well, designs, but)

(also a new signature but that’s less interesting)

Wing approached me a while ago saying that he was thinking of redesigning his ‘sona, to base the bird half off of something other than a peregrine falcon. After settling on a bluejay, I doodled up a quick base of his old design and made a few different alternates to get a feel for how it might look.

After a bit of firing input back and forth and making modifications as requested, we settled on his new design (right). Pretty drastic change, huh?

Then, I thought to myself, “y’know, Kyuurin doesn’t look much like a cardinal, I might as well fix that while I’m at it.” Since I already had the base it was easy enough to just copy it and modify it into Kyuurin’s design, so I could repeat the same process, though it was much shorter since there was no species change and most of the changes were pretty minimal anyways. The biggest one was probably dropping the bangs and giving him proper hair instead, which wasn’t an easy decision to make - I tried a few different ways to keep the bangs, but they all looked pretty unnatural.

End result: Here. To be honest I’m still not 100% sure on Kyuurin’s new palette, I might try giving him his old palette with this new design to see how it looks later. I’m also probably going to ditch the inner wing stripes, they’re kinda pointless.

These were done pretty quickly just to settle on designs, so it’s probably not my most polished work (there are probably stray pixels and such all over the place, and the anatomy could be better - you can probably tell that I did just copy/paste parts like the hands and feet to speed things up), but I’m happy with how the designs themselves came out.

Gonna try and get more art done on a regular basis this year - I started it off with a cold, which was not very conductive to drawing, to say the least. Hopefully the rest of the year goes smoothly enough.

EDIT: Played with Kyuurin's colour palette a bit, I think this looks a lot better. Also redrew his hair to include the bangs, They're too integral to his design after all, heh. ^v^;
