A conceptual marker sketch of my takes on Gastly, Haunter, and Gengar.
-I made Gastly’s “body” a floating skull. It was sort of an accident, but I really liked the idea of the haze being jagged, like it’s worn fabric tearing away (it’s supposed to be gray and purple, but obviously, my scanner interpreted it differently).
-I got the idea for Haunter’s wispy appearance from Ross’s Gengar from Pokemon Art Academy on Grumpcade. Using that aesthetic for Haunter, I like to think of him as a flickering candle flame. And I drew the face to be like a classic jack-o-lantern pattern.
*Also, I wanted to give the effect that as the Pokemon evolves, it’s becoming more and more corporeal.
-Gengar was a hell of a lot of fun. I just flat-out took inspiration from the Crites from the CRITTERS movies. I suppose mashing that with his design and my style inadvertently brought out his inner Gremlin as well.
