The day was hot, even for the arid region around the contact settlement. For Ortuk, suited as he was for the ice and snow, it was almost unbearable. Still he sat in his market stall as the sun continued to climb through the late morning sky. He’d abandoned his shirt hours ago. Sweat rolled down his arms as he worked sharp flakes from the stone core in his hands.
His mind wandered back to the cool high valleys where he had lived with his clan, long before he’d heard stories of the People of Grass…

Well, strictly speaking, a Neanderthal, but that's a subtle distinction.
He's got a stone and a knapper (made of antler) in his hands. He's making small ornamental flint knives for sale. The tourists who come to the little town to gawk at the Neanderthal "foreigners" buy them as souvenirs. He's a skilled stone carver and ceramic artist, but the tourists want something more "ethnic".
And yes, Bruka is insanely skilled.
