Oh, so that's where the design of the clergy with the long-handled mace comes from in DQ8. (I've also been playing it to, for nostalgia. I've been amusing myself grinding though instead of fighting the final boss.)

Honestly, I've been playing Dragon Quest VIII since the 3DS release and I can say a lot of reference from Dragon Quest III are there. The Martial Artist, Warrior, and Priest NPCs are based on the characters from Dragon Quest III, and the Pub music is the same tune from the Monster Arena in Dragon Quest III.

I haven't played III, so I wouldn't know. But, how has the game been so far? Where have you gotten too?

After playing the entire series I can say it's not one of the better ones, it's all uphill from there! That's not to say it's a bad game though, it's still good! It actually had a rushed development and sadly shows, but damn that overworld music is one of my favorites.

Really? That's the first I've heard of it being rushed. I played the iOS version, which is really smooth and streamlined. For my first DQ title ever, I enjoyed it quite a bit. : )

Sorry, looks like I misread, though from what I've read on Wikipedia it does say the game had some troubling development with balancing which lead to delays. Unfortunately the iOS version has a bit of a problem with the graphics which was stretched on my phone, which is strange because Dragon Quest III on the iOS was just fine. Still a good game, I'm really glad to hear you had a positive experience!

Well the original NES DQII definitely had balance issues, I can agree from videos I've watched of it. Later versions, such as on the Game Boy Color, rebalanced the uneven difficulty though. As for being on the iPhone, I didn't have any issues with the graphics being stretched. Which model of phone was it on? The game looks fine on a 6 or higher.

I certainly did enjoy it, thank you! I'm looking forward to more Dragon Quest, but I'm so swamped with both my job and the games I'm currently playing that it's going to be hard to squeeze in another RPG. The PS4 and its RPG goodness right now, argh! XD

I have an LGStylo and the pixels were definitely stretched for DQII. At first I thought it was my phone, but it turns out that wasn't the case as DQIII looked just fine. I don't know what was up with that.

I hope you can get the time for it, it's an incredible series and I can definitely see where other RPGs have taken inspiration from.

Hmm, maybe a problem with syncing the graphics to the phone, possibly? I'm no expert but I've heard cases like that a few times.
