It's a pose known as the Dead Bunny Flop, or DBF. It's a pose rabbits get into when they feel extraordinarily comfortable and completely secure. It's joked about as the ``number one cause of heart attacks in rabbit-owners''.
Our pet rabbit did it more often as he got all the more arthritic. It seems like it was the last pose he could manage that was comfortable, or at least not too painful to endure.
The name turns out to be correct.
