From the mansion foyer you took the side door. Whatever drove you into that place beckoned you into the center of the mansion. You were convinced of course, that the most direct way would lead to a trap, so you took the long way around.
Taking the ruined hall past ruined doors, sinking floors and fallen lights you came to an open, well preserved room. The rotunda is an octagonal room wholly clad in marble, cold due to the stones but ornately decorated. A great amount of care was put into the small space, four of the walls contain small niches with female sculptures. Only one door was open, and you took it. The Statue nearest it held a chisel and paintbrush, pointing you to the Gallery.
Behind the door is a wooden hall. Paintings hang interspersed between old stone sculptures. The paintings look very odd – each painting is blank. The pigments have inexplicably run out of the frames, leaking into the walls, and staining the wood.
Eventually, the paintings stop all together, and instead the gallery houses only statues. Most of the statues are similar to the finely carved ones of marble in the rotunda. Others are a mix of marbles or hard stones, most being fine works, but at the end of the gallery one catches your eye. Sitting in stark contras to the hall of fine marbles, this one is a rough coarsely hewn block of some dark stone.
Coming to that pedestal in the hall you examine the stone. It’s cold and rough to the touch, and as you examine the unfinished rock; you can see bright runes skitter across the stone. These glyphs are unnatural and glowing, moving with apparent will.
One of the glyphs stops moving. Compelled by a strange force, you touch the glyph, tracing it with your figure. As you finger follows the groove in the stone, the same shape is repeated… on your forehead. The stone disappears.
For a moment your forehead ignites in pain, but your body soon adjusts, flesh warping and growing into massive stone shapes. Larger and stronger, you become an animated stone creature,
You have become the GOLEM
