Way back in '94, I had a thing for the Redwall series. Even wrote a fanfic novella (and this was WELL before anyone could even dream of posting fanfics). Then, I realized that each novel was basically the same and no "bad" animal would ever have redemption.
But, I digress.
My first attempt at book illustration was to take excerpts from the novel Martin of Redwall and illustrate them. I did four and this is the only one that survived.
Bad: Martin the mouse's eye. What's up with that thing?
Good: The foreground detritus was done without models.

That concept with redwall and its really weak evil/good dichotomy was quite an awful reading experience. all the chars were 100% predictable in their morality.
In their world... all the redwallers have to do to bring peace is basically begin a genocidal eradication of all 'vermin' species and then hey! everyone would be at peace! Thats the world Jacques has built. I personally hate it
