It is a sad day today.
The hunt came to the riding stables where I work today for their meet. I don't agree with hunting, but because I need my job to be able to afford my 2 horses and dog (and to you know, live!) I keep working and keep my head down.
I had been watching a male fox for a couple of weeks now. I saw him most days and saw his mate once.
Today he was killed by the hunt. Along with 2 others. It's not confirmed whether one of the other two was Mrs. Fox, but I'm not holding out any hope as it was killed near their patch.
The first time I saw him, was my birthday (6th Jan) and I called Mum and said it was the best birthday present! To see a live fox, so close and he was so calm. To know "My" fox was killed by those barbarians, it makes me feel sick.
Hunting foxes with hounds is illegal in England, but it still goes on. The police were lied to and said they were just "exercising the hounds" when there had already been one confirmed kill.
I am looking for another job, even though 99% of the time I adore my job, but I don't want to see another animal run for his life like Mr. Fox, with terror in his eyes.
Seeing a fox in these parts is rare and to see one regularly like Mr. Fox is even more so. They took not only a life, but one of the only joys I had remaining. When will this horrific "sport" end?
Rest in Peace, Mr. Fox.
