Mom says the change will be good for me, she says I might actually make some friends in the new school. I liked my school, I was around people I knew, even if I didn't know them personally, I liked the city, but now we were going to this rural hundred-year-old small town where everyone knew everything that went on. Mom took the car while a friend of hers drove the rent-a-truck with me following over head. I always liked to fly instead of drive, it was easier and much faster then sitting in a car, not to mention the amazing feeling of flying. I wonder if anyone else there was like me, there were few others in the city and it wasn't much of a big deal there.
Finally the seemingly endless dirt road stopped and faded into this tiny town, it looked like there couldn't have been more then five hundred people living there. Mom got out of the car and I landed next to her. Trees and wildlife surrounded the town, nothing like what it was in the city, I kind of liked it.
"Like the new house?" she smiled as we walked up to, what looked like a newly remodeled house, bigger then the others around. Figures. I walked up to the house behind her and a few little kids ran over to us newcomers. Mom and I had been here before, late at night when no one was around. While my mom's guy friends brought the stuff in, I wandered around to take a second look around the house, which seemed like it was way too clean for the place we lived now. "Oh sweety." mom came and found me in the big bathroom. "Some boys outside want to show you the school." I sighed, thinking it couldn't hurt to get to know some of the people around here and walked out, where two boys, maybe a year younger then I was, were standing outside. I jumped down the few stairs that lead up to the porch, the boys looked surprised to see the wings come out to slow my fall.
"Hey." I said, less then enthusiasticly, it seemed like it took them a minute to get their senses back to talk.
"Uh, hey." the boy on the left said, looking me over, who had brown hair and brown eyes. "I'm Mark, and this is Derik." the other boy nodded when his name was mentioned, he had blonde hair and blue eyes.
"The schools over here." he said then him and Mark ran toward it, I had no problem catching up. We ran up to the school, which seemed like more of a hang out then anything else.
"Where I'm from people run from school." I said as we walked up, I was, as always, getting odd looks from the people around, the ages seemed to range from ten to twenty, although there weren't many people. I was used to the odd stares, though they didn't seem to be more discrete about it like they were in the city as I went to sit down on the stairs. After a bit of awkward silence around me I got up and went to look around for a more secluded place to hang out.
Behind the school were the locker rooms, no one was in there so I sat on one of the benches in the showers and leaned back against the wall, shutting my eyes quietly. The next thing I knew, cold water drenched me, making me yelp and jump off the bench, of course I was only in my socks like I always was, and fell on my back. A few people started laughing beside me. Great, it was going to be HHS all over again. The girls were laughing loud and abnoxiously while the guy with them just smirked at me. Mark and Derik from before walked in with another boy, probably a year or two older then me. He had black hair looking messy like he hadn't done much with it in a while and dark blue eyes. He looked like he was about 5'11'' and wore what everyone else did hammy downs and worn looking clothes.
"Leave the newbie alone." the boy I hadn't met yet said.
"Why should we?" the brown haired girl said, putting her hands on her hips and her friends followed. I glanced over, seeing a slightly open locker by her head then pulled myself back up and went over quietly while her back was turned and opened it. A pair of old socks rolled out and landed on her shoulder, Mark, Derik, and the other boy started to laugh as she screamed then ran out of the locker room, quickly followed by her friends and obvious boy friend.
"Oops." I said quietly, Mark came over and put his arm around my shoulders. This was deffanately new, no one had ever got close to me unless they were trying to beat the shit out of me or bumped into me in the hallways.
"Yer pretty cool." the boy I hadn't seen yet said. "Why don't we go to yer place, it's bigger then any a' ours." he said, a slight blush of emberessmant came to my face. Thanks for the lugsurious house mom.
"Uh, okay." I said quietly and we started to walk out of the locker room, past the school and down the short road to my house. We stomped up the steps but mom wasn't home, probably out making more friends, although I didn't think she'd make many around here. We walked back to the back yard, the boys looked around almost mezmorized at the huge place. We walked out to the small porch in the backyard and the third boy came up to me a bit too close.
"So what's yer name?" a small smirk on his face.
"I, uh, Ben." I stammered, nervous of the closeness and he smirked.
"Jake." he said, putting a hand out for me to shake, I took his hand and shook it quietly then Mark came over and pulled me away, slinging his arm around my shoulders.
"This guy flew here!" he said excitedly, grabbing my left wing and pulled it stretched out a bit.
"Hey!" I said quickly, ducking away from them, the sudden close contact making my skin crawl, I started backing toward the tree next to us.
"Hey, why so shy?" Jake grinned, moving closer to me, the other boys following him, something seemed wrong. I quickly jumped and grabbed onto the tree, figuring it could hold my weight, but of course it couldn't, the tree bent back and flung me to the ground. The three boys jumped down, Jake pulled out an exacto knife.
Mark, grabbed Jake's wrist. "What're you doing?" he whispered.
"Don't worry, I'm just messin' with 'im." Jake whispered back, looking amused at the boy's reactions then walked up to Ben again.
I scrambled back but the knife was put my neck, making me go wide eyed, staring at the box cutting knife pressed against my neck, making adrenaline start to rush through my veins. "Wh...what are you doing??" my voice came out squeekier then I'd hoped. Inside the house the door slammed shut.
"Ben??" Mom called.
"Shit!" Jake said then quickly put the knife away and ran with the other two boys, they jumped the fence and took off as my mom came back and saw me on the ground.
"Hey? What are you doing down there?" she smiled down at me. "Where'd your friends go?" Still in a bit of shock I stumbled to my feet and jumped in the air, taking off after them. "Ben!" I heard her call after me but I continued to fly. The boys hadn't gotten far, but much farther then anyone from the city could've gotten normally. Suddenly I dropped down, landing in front of them, they all stopped on a dime and suddenly looked scared of me.
"What's wrong with you?? Why the hell did you pull a fucking knife out on me?!" I snapped, my breath getting faster as the adrenaline raged through me.
"Hey hey! I was just messin' around!" Jake said, looking freaked and took a step back, making me step forward, getting in his face.
"You asshole!! Do you have any idea what my mom would have done to you if she caught you?!" I yelled, suddenly realizing I actually shouldn't give a shit about what happened to the bastard. So why did I?
"Okay! I'm sorry!" he said then took off running again with Mark and Derik.
