I have no idea what these guys are, but I like them. Some kind of water spirits that inhabit coral reefs, rivers, and lakes. They purify them and live off the plants, fish and crustaceans that live there. They usually are not hostile unless raising young, and they tend to be attracted to shiny items like jewels, pearls, metals, and stone to craft these items into decorations (usually only the females look for these items, though males will collect these items to try and present them to females to impress them.)
More Information:
-The ones that learn human speech only seem to understand it brokenly. They can understand pretty well, but have difficultly speaking it.
-Coloration is usually dependent on habitat, ones near large rivers tend to be grayer and or brown, ones near the ocean are more colorful as they like to hang around coral reefs, and ones in lakes are gray-greens and blues. A lot of the time though, they will have colorations resembling nearby flora or fauna (like the patterning of a deer or a native flower).
-They view humans as more of a curiosity than a food source, though it has been known for humans to feed them or give them offerings as if at a temple. Sometimes they can find these humans as protection or as companions, though it does not happen often.
-They can thrive on land or in water, but prefer to be around water more.
-Females will decorate their ears to show off for males. More often than not, the decorations on their already bright ears are gifts from males to impress them. There has been known to be males who try and mate with males and females with females. These homosexual pairs sometimes adopt abandoned eggs or abandoned young.
-These creatures are monogamous and mate for life. They only find another mate if their mate dies or moves from the territory. They spend a small period of grieving before doing so, however.
-The large claws on these creatures are not usually used for combat, the paws have claws but are mainly used for swimming. They look "webbed" and are used for steering and thrust through water.
-Cannibalism in this species is non-existent. They will never eat their own kind and have seen to make graves for their young, elders, and those who died in fights.
-Males do not usually fight for females, but if there is a standstill in impressing a female, they try to duke it out by 'punching' each other with their tucked arms. They do not usually go into full-on brawls unless it escalates or they are fighting over territory.
-Females tend to be very protective of their eggs and only let those who they trust near them. Violence is not their first instinct and they try to use scare tactics (hissing, making themselves look larger than they are, flashing teeth, pretend ramming towards the intruder), though if boundaries are overstepped they will resort to claws.
-FULL ON BLACK/WHITE ULACOR ARE NON-EXISTENT. They are almost never born in these colors or in a majority of their color being black or white. If so, many times they are considered to have magical properties or have the ability to shapeshift into a human form.
