No Ponies Required- Can't Fool Me, Disney.
Hey! Enjoying the theme we've been going with here? *looks around, giddy* I know I am. But, to keep things fresh, shake 'em up a little, we'll switch the gears from horse-fucking to something a little on the more family fun and friendly side of things for just a second or two. Don't you worry, I have plenty more to say about it.*beams*
Now, many of you out there, wherever you are, might not have grown up with Jim Henson's work being in the forefront of your developing little mind. I am truly sorry for you. Seriously. *folds her fingers* I am not kidding here. Henson was an amazing artist and one of the main reasons I find using "hippie" as a slur so very distasteful. Jim Henson, for whatever personal failings he had, had a certain vision for the world, one I try REALLY damned hard to share. This vision was spread pretty evenly across his Muppet characters(holy shit. Spellcheck made me capitalize "Muppet"), who were for the most part- extensions of himself, his psyche, his feelings, personality and world-view. An even greater example of his personal mission-statement could be seen specifically in "Fraggle Rock", which is a big part of why it is absolutely awesome and if you disagree you are a addle-patted luddite, braying sheer nonsense. The view that we, as a species, human beings, COULD just get along, love each other, laugh, share, live our lives and enjoy each other while we can. *laughs* but then we invent reasons to distance ourselves from each other.
We invent social constructs, norms, mores, we fly our stupid little flags, draw up invisible lines on pieces of paper, "this is ours, that's yours, bugger off". We invent gods, supernatural explanations for phenomena we find too uncomfortable to face the facts about, natural disasters, illness, coincidences, old age, DYING, so many scary things we SHOULD be coming together and hugging it out over cocoa and facing them as one planet-wide family... *sighs, sad* but we won't *shrugs* We just refuse to. Too much greed. Too much fear. *sneers* Too damned much pride. "My god said this so you're wrong" "Oh, yeah, well, America, bitches! Fuck Yeah!"
Since Disney bought up Henson holdings, I've met every day with a little trepidation somewhere in the back-burner of my mind. I wonder what new property they'll try to dig up and exploit a few more dollars out of. A new "Dark Crystal" movie? Another "Muppet" movie? Hey, why not re-make "The Labyrinth"... oh yeah, because that would be a damned SACRILEGE.
Now this is not to say that Disney has done a terrible job thus far with Henson's world. That first Muppet movie they did *shakes her head* Hoo... I still tear up every time I hear Kermit sing about the pictures in the hallway of his mind. Other things they've done, tho... *pained winces*
Still- I'm hopeful to see his memory carry on. I am. I know there are creative people out there who share in it. I'd like to think maybe a few of those executive types still care enough about people and not profit margins to get behind those creative folkes. I want to see us all remember that vision, that ideal. It's a beautiful world he could see in us all. It's a world I'd say is worth fighting for. Wouldn't you?
You are remembered Jim, wherever you are. *smiles*

I love this. I'm fortunate enough to live not to far from where Jim grew up and made Kermit. He is probably one of my biggest influences when it comes to theatre and some of the children's lit I write. I do know there has been a manga sequel to the labyrinth..and I think I read where they might be working on a either prequel or sequel to labyrinth. There is talk of a second Dark Crystal movie I'm afraid. I do know that the Jim Henson company will be over the animations in the Five Night at Freddy's movie.
No they don't make them like Mr. Henson anymore.

I remember when you were working on this one, one night while
Ahriman was working on one of his cool underground cities in Minecraft. I still think it came out very pretty. You do those soft color transitions so well. It is quite shameful that they would slap their brand over Jim Hensons wonderful creation. I've not seen any of the other disney Muppet movies but I did love the one we watched together, it was very sweet and heartwarming.
