Three robber barons ask to speak (without background)
One of my Halloween-oriented artworks for this year. I'm proud to present the three most terrible, cruel and infame robber barons in German history. I think with some exceptions the problem of robbing barons existed only in the Holy Roman Empire of German Nation, a relic of the old and complex feudal system.
From left to right:
a, Thomas von Absberg, the hand-chopper
Quite an insane man, who really was the worst of the worst. He liked to chop off hands from (only) Nuremberg victims.
b, Gtz von Berlechingen, the man with the iron fist
An iron hand replaced his right one. A full movable technical masterpiece.
Through the work of Goethe, he is somehow a German national hero.
He invented (really, that's true) the swearword: " Leck mich am Arsch!".
Translation in English is soft (Bite me!), it really means "Lick my ass!"
For medieval times really shocking.
c, Mangold von Eberstein, the worst hostage-flayer
He liked to torture, burn, kill and sly everyone he ould get in his fingers. Like the story goes, his soul flyed (in form of a green fog)directly to hell after his death.
Happy Halloween!

I guess this is a case of the grass always being greener (Er...have you heard the saying this references?). I'd say that there are many here who feel that we'd be a lot better if we had a bit more history behind us. Then again, mayhap you are right that looking to the future is better than struggling against the past...
Aw, come on! Those who say that are unfair. I mean, America was explored 1492. Medieval times were nearly over in Europe. The frist big sttlements were founded in the 16. - 17. hundreds. The time of the 30-years-war and the enlightenment (if that's the right word). And whole USA were settled in the end of the 19th century. So how could you possilby HAVE a long history.
After all, in the last 70 years you make a great effort to bring yourself into history-books.^^

500 channels, but nothing to watch.
And Texas is so different (sometimes) that it might as well be it's own country (actually...I think it still technically might be...)
Overall, you're correct though: we do have a rich country, but we rarely notice. Now, if only we could scrap our politicians and start over...
