The survivors would have had to have been few in number, and tougher than nails. It's going to definitely be an interesting road to recovery for their species, since the forests would have been the first things to go in the kind of global firestorm and orbital scrap bombardment that the planet was taking. That's the dirty side of the Endor battle that they never show you later, it's supposed to be a nice, clean engagement.
As I commented when this was up on DA, I love the background. The falling objects are beautifully done, and the post-apocalyptic landscape is incredible.
