Yes, those movies are all quite good [some people complain about the remake, but I feel it's actually pretty good. Of course the hilarious thing is when they bitch about the ending, even though it's more accurate to Pierre Boulle's book, but what do they know? lol] I thought the way you stylized apes seemed kinda familiar-ish. I was looking through your gallery and you have some nice stuff! :)
thank you. As far as Burton's Planet of the Apes, I just wished they did made a sequal for that one. I am curious as to how Thade managed to travel back in time. But it would be nice if there was a movie that followed faithfully to Boulle's book. There you can actually "see" the love triangle between the human character, Nova, and Zira as well as Zira, Cornelius, and the Human character.
Well Given the Statue's manner of dress it would seem if it is the Thade from the movie he would've had to go a bit forward in time. As given that our human at the end went up to modern times and the statue was there dressed in period clothes which likely came long after the movie. I think however it's more likely the Thade statue is either of one of Thade's decedents or perhaps an ape named after the famously anti human chimp.
Anyway that said I would also love the see a sequel and see what happens to the human and what the apes do to him and get some of their missing history in between what is likely very early earth history given it had two moons then to current times. And of course it would just plane rock to see their civilization and such. See the subtle differences in stuff here and there.

Yeah, totally.
I was also always baffled by/intrigued by one comment Zira makes [I think it was her] about monkeys being lower on the evolutionary order [despite seeming ignorant to evolution previously? It's been a while, I admit] 'cause I mean, it would be SO neat to see the REST of their world, especially if their were monkey people besides just the known chimp/orangs/gorilla people we currently see.

Yeah that would be fairly cool. I'd also be interesting to see how much hybridization goes on. I mean considering how similar they all are to one another and such it seems likely they'd be able to interbreed and perhaps produce reproductively viable offspring. The right hybridizations could get you a very diverse populace.
And I'm not sure Zira made the monkey comment. Which movie was it in. But at any rate it'd stand to reason she'd know of if given her husband was an archaeologist and familiar with the concept of evolution. I also noticed that Krall in the newer movie made a similar comment stating. "Apes! Monkeys are further down the evolutionary ladder. Just above humans." And that's where I think it's a little odd to hear of evolution given that there was no context for what they Archaeological knowledge was like or if they'd observed instances of specieation in their environment and came about the theory with no real archaeological background to add more evidence to it.

that could be soo, considering Thade's society is primative compair to Leo's world. but then there is always that what happened after Leo left. I just wish Fox did not leave us guessing and wondering after the 2001 version (even though that was Burton's intention to give you food for thought with the ending)
Well from the story that is going on in my head she is a little bit based on Ari. Sita is actually a chimp that is from the time where Burton's planet of the apes ended. She is actually transported back in time to the past (which would have been 7 years after Leo left on the Alien planet, which in Sita's world it is called Calima.) for her safety, since a group of humans were actually hunting her down.
I think you did a amazing job on this one. Especially the way you handle the watercolour (If I get this right) medium. It really brought the foreground/ center of the attention and the BG really well. Vibrant colours for a vibrant market full of daily life-ness.
If there's anything I must say, probably the orange stand in the foreground. I think it looks a bit wierd perspecticvely wise but I could be wrong since I am not actually measuring it with rulers.
For some reason the mom behind Sita kinda remind me of Turk (the Rosie O'Donnell one) from Tarzan... Kukukukuku (Sargent Kululu snickers) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QkbWhVT1jnk&feature=related
