You'd be surprised how much I've learned to work around that over the years! Not to mention the level of dexterity I've developed. I can flawlessly raise my feet completely vertical, and if some climb them I very subtly shake it enough to them to lose their grip... the fur is still densly packed, meaning that they slow down their descent and it's not a fatal landing. That said, I've had a few micros break a few bones...
