Chapter 5: A Series of Unfortunate Events
A Lunis Idea
Written by Mecha-MightyenaDOR
Krystal sighed, picking at the plate of snacks Amaya had gotten her. Right now, the renamon was trying to take her friend’s advice and relax for at least one day. It had been two weeks since the attack at the park, and in all that time the fox digimon had been uneasy and skittish. So many questions had plagued her since that day, but there was no real clue what any of them could do.
Azriel had been trying to figure out some way to aid the renamon, but all attempts to find a roundabout way of identifying her had failed. Still he still seemed hopeful he could figure something out, he just needed some time. Least that was what he kept telling her, Krystal wasn’t sure if he was just saying that to keep her from worrying.
The renamon let out another sigh as she stretched and leaned back into the chair, trying to relax and calm down. She tried to focus on watching the TV, Amaya had it tuned to the news. Amaya herself was sitting on the couch, gently scratching patamon’s back and head as he slept in her lap.
“Earlier today yet another rouge digimon was able to appear in our world, seemingly under the noses of authorities. While DRT personnel were able to contain the violent creature, this is the fifth occurrence in two weeks of a digimon managing to skirt by their detection abilities. DRT representatives had no comment on the spree of aggressive digimon or how they kept coming through undetected.”
“Amaya, who’s dart anyway?”
“Huh? Oh, D R T. Digital Response Team. Remember? They’re the ones who picked us up after we were attacked at the park.” She looked to the renamon.
Krystal blinked, “Oh…oh! I get it…DRT. Dart.” She rubbed her head, blushing that she hadn’t realized the nickname. “So…what exactly do they do?”
“Well they keep track of digimon crossing over. As such they respond to digimon coming over, you know, incase they’re hostile.” She tapped her chin, “They also register all digimon and tamer teams.”
“So, they’re a bunch of humans and digimon keeping track of other digimon?”
“Well I don’t think a lot of them have partners actually. A few do, but most don’t…I’m pretty sure about that at least.” She shrugged.
The conversation was abruptly cut off as the door flung open, Azriel walking in with a box in his arm. The loud thunk was enough to wake patamon up, who immediately flew into the air looking left and right before noticing Azriel and grumbling, “What’s the big idea!?”
Azriel didn’t pay any attention, “Time to wake up and do something chubs.” He held up the box, looking to Amaya, “Guess what I got as a gratuity from TCG Studios.” Putting the container down he flipped the flaps to reveal dozen of digimon card packs.
Amaya let out a gasp, eyes going wide as she shot to the edge of her seat as she looked at the supply he had brought in, Patamon fluttering about nearby with an equally awestruck expression on his face. “They just gave you these?”
Azriel nodded, chuckling as Patamon smirked, “Looks like you’re good for something.”
“Yeah, unlike you chubs.” Azriel countered, smirking as the digimon huffed. He turned to Krystal, “Hey, mind getting Amaya’s digivice…should be in the hall I think.”
“I think it’s in my room, isn’t it?”
“No I found it on the floor of my room. I put it on the hall shelf.”
“Why was it in your room?” Amaya was certain it was in her room.
“You must have dropped it getting something…wouldn’t be the first time.” He chuckled, “You really need to keep better track of that thing. You call yourself a tamer.”
Amaya blushed, patamon huffing as he fluttered in front of Azriel, “She’s still a better tamer than you. You’d probably try to sleep with your partner if you had even half a chance you perv-mon.”
Azriel gave the rookie a smack in the face with one of the card packs, “Only if she was a bombshell.”
“Ugh, please don’t put images in my head, I would like to be able to eat and sleep for the rest of the week.” Amaya rubbed her face, Krystal returning with digivice in paw, “Thanks. Where was it?”
“Hall shelf.”
Azriel raised an arm, “Called it!”
“What are these cards for by the way?” Krystal’s head was tilted to the side.
“Oh, well normally it’s just for a card game, but digivices allow it to give tamer and digimon teams an edge.” Amaya chuckled, “It’s not a big deal for me and patamon, we don’t engage in the competitive fight scene. But it’s always nice having some cards around in case we get into a sticky situation.”
Krystal looked down, “Like at the…”
Azriel quickly cut her off, “Like when someone goes skipping along through a dark ass street when she knows there’s been a lot of muggings recently!”
Amaya huffed, “I was perfectly fine! Patamon kept me safe and we even got a reward for knocking the guy’s shoes off…”
Patamon grinned, adopting a heroic pose, “Literally knocked him out of his shoes. The jerk didn’t take me seriously and paid the price, and yet some perv-mon jerk faces keep underestimating me.” He gave Azriel a glare, the human ignoring him completely.
“But beyond that, giving a digimon super speed can be helpful if they need to get something or catch up to someone.” Amaya looked through the cards, “Hey patamon, let’s head over to the practice zone and try some of these babies out.” Amaya got up, beaming as she picked out a few of the cards she was keen on testing out as well as her backpack. Patamon let his approval be known with a cheer and another heroic pose.
Azriel chuckled, “Sounds good, I’ll tag along.”
Krystal blushed, “Umm…and a practice zone is what?” She felt so stupid not knowing a single thing, especially since it was all related to digimon.
“It’s a place where tamer and digimon can go and try out their combat stuff. Test out cards, get the hang of attacks and abilities and all that junk.” Azriel stretched as he stood, “You should tag along Krystal. You’ve been staying in the apartment for days on end, you should get out some.”
The renamon was quiet for a bit before nodding, “I guess I could go for a walk.”
Azriel tossed her a key, “Then here, if you get back before us.” He opened the door, motioning for everyone to head out, “See you after a while Krystal…if you do get back before feel free to take a shower and strut around the place naked. Can’t imagine those cloths are too comfortable.”
Krystal and Amaya both groaned, rolling their eyes as they started walking.
Thankfully it wasn’t much of a walk to reach the practice area, Azriel still hadn’t gotten his vehicle fixed, the cost of getting it repaired cheaper meant he had to wait longer. The PZ was filled with a few others, with ages running the gambit from kids to adults, with digimon of all shapes and sizes. Azriel looked around, sighing as there weren’t any attractive ones around, just his luck he supposed.
Amaya grinned as she looked through the cards before settling for the Hyper speed card. The three made their way to the running course, patamon doing some stretching as they waited for their turn. Azriel couldn’t suppress a chuckle at the sight of the chubby little digimon doing his little motions, getting a glare in return. They didn’t have long to wait, eventually the track was freed up, patamon fluttering to the starting line. “Ready!”
Amaya grinned, prepping the card and digivice, “Let’s do it. Card slash.”
Azriel palm smacked his face, groaning and sighing as he shook his head. His sister ignored him, swiping the card through the digivice and patamon took off…at the same pace he always flew around at. All three of them blinked and stared in confusion, Amaya swiping the card again only to get the same result. As tempting as it was to make a joke of patamon being too fat to really move any faster, Azriel was more concerned that the cards he was given were defective. Though that would have explained why the company was happy to just give them away.
“Let me see.” He grabbed the card and digivice, inspecting the card strip to make sure nothing was wrong with it, “You sure you’re sliding it the right way?” He got ready to swipe the card himself.
“Of course, I did…and what are you doing, you know digivices only work for their owners.”
“Hey, you never know.”

Krystal sighed, jogging down the sidewalk as she thought about her situation. She tried to focus more on what she’d do rather than her amnesia, since she had no real way of doing anything about the latter. The former however, she could do something about. She didn’t want to continue being a burden on Azriel and Amaya, even if he said her posing for drawings helped, she still felt so useless for most the day. All that free time meant she kept thinking of her predicament which did nothing but make her feel terrible.
For the time being she could focus on keeping the place clean, later maybe she could find a job of some sort. There was a good chance she’d be here for a while, so it would be good to have money to get stuff for herself. She didn’t feel comfortable constantly mooching off her human benefactors, not after everything they had already done.
Her train of thought was suddenly derailed as her eyes were quickly drawn to a sight that was very pleasing to the renamon. At first glance one could mistake the figure for a normal gray haired young adult human, well as normal as you could get with a nun-outfit on. But the klobuk being shaped like a cat’s head, plus the twin pistols hanging at her side gave away that it was in fact a sistermon noir. And she was quite the cute one at that, the renamon’s eyes lingering for a bit, unaware as a faint glow came from her body before she suddenly shot forward in a massive burst of speed.
Unfortunately for the vixen digimon her path was nowhere near long enough to accommodate such a massive increase in speed, and she quickly found herself smashed into the side of a wall. A few seconds passed before she peeled back and off the slab of brick and mortar, twitching a little when she hit the ground, the entire front of her body adopting a red hue from the strike. Her paws grabbed her nose as she hissed from the rather hard impact, looking around to see what had happened. Her face only grew redder as she noticed all the stares directed her way, shooting up as she was still moving far faster than she should. The renamon gulped, looking down at her legs as she tried walking, and still managed to move at the speed of a normal sprint, quickly leaving the crash behind.
*****
Azriel sighed, shrugging, “Well can’t say I gave it a try. Guess the cards a dud. Let’s try out another.”
“No wonder they just gave you those cards…offloading their bad product on their hack artist.” Patamon huffed and grumbled as they left the speed track, Amaya quickly looking through the rest of her cards. “Should have known better than to think you’d bring anything non-smutty of quality home.”
Azriel smirked, “Hey now, maybe it’s your fault chubs. I mean you are pretty portly…maybe speed just won’t work on you.” Patamon huffed and flailed about in the air, “Just a thought…how about the strength boost Amaya? The chubby rat should be okay for that one.”
Amaya grinned, “Good idea.” She proceeded to elbow him in the gut before sprinting for the large blocks that were used for strength exercises. “Alright patamon, let’s try and push this behemoth!”
“It’ll be easy with a strength boost.”
“You mean you’ll be accomplishable for your little chubby…oof!” Azriel got another elbow to his gut.
“Card slash!” Amaya swiped the card, Patamon slamming into the large block…and nothing happened. His little wings fluttered rapidly as he attempted to move the stone slab, but to no effect. Amaya groaned, “Again!?”
Azriel sighed, “Damn it…here let me try.” Even if it was pointless, it was still worth a shot, maybe her digivice was on the fritz. She didn’t exactly take the best care of it.
*****
Krystal sighed while panting heavily, her movements had finally returned to normal, only after she had run all around though thanks to not being able to stop without slamming into someone. Which made the sudden loss of speed cause her to fall flat on her face. She grumbled, rubbing her sore snout before she twisted off the cap of her water. Thankfully Azriel had gave her some cash for small things, and after that adventure she needed to cool down.
She gave a relieved sigh as she lifted the bottle up, when yet again she became encased by a feint glow. Suddenly her paw clenched shut, crushing her bottle of water in an instant, a gush of liquid erupting out. Water went up her nose, into her mouth, and drenched her face and chest, the renamon staring blankly as she dripped. She than started coughing, holding her nose as water dripped out of it. She let out a groan, wiping her face as she stared at her crushed bottle, “What’s going on?”
She let out another sigh, this time of exasperation before she blinked, noticing that people were staring again…only this time the stares were a bit more…lecherous or appalled. Her face immediately heated up, as she realized she had managed to get her chest soaked as well, her top clinging even more tightly to her bust. With a yelp of embarrassment, she got up and moved to escape the stares while using a paw to cover her chest, the other grabbing a sign post…and bending the metal as she gripped it. “Ah! No no no!” she tried to straighten it out, but the attempt only warped the pole more.
*****
Azriel grumbled as they meandered their way to the target range, Amaya having decided to try hyper voice out. Just what patamon needed, to be even louder and more obnoxious, Azriel made a mental note to steal this card away from his sister. “Alright, third times the charm, right?” Amaya took a breath, “Card slash!”
Patamon focused on the target, taking a deep breath before, “Ha!” He pushed all of the breath out of his lungs, before falling to the ground and gasping air back in. “Another dud.”
Amaya’s face fell into her hand, shaking her head as she grumbled, “Dumb cards…Card slash! Card slash! Card slash!” She swiped the card through the digivice over and over again. Patamon tried again, but only his measly normal shout came out, no booming force. Amaya let out a groan, pulling her hair before holding out the card and digivice, “Here, give it a try. It won’t work, but I don’t care at this point! Ah! Oh, here’s some free cards for you Azriel in lieu of more money! You don’t mind right!?” She paced back and forth, “Oh did we forget to mention they’re all defective!”
*****
Krystal grumbled, arms crossed as she marched for the place Azriel indicated was the practice zone, at least she hoped it was the same spot. With all her running she was afraid she’d lost her way, today had not been a good day. The important question was of course what on earth was going on, sudden bursts of speed, then a massive increase in her physical strength. What could possibly happen next!?
She sighed, marching forward, keeping watch of herself to try and catch any potential problem before it caused her to make a fool of herself. Again. She avoided getting to close to anyone, lest she spontaneously emit lightning from her body, or something else equally as silly and embarrassing. She took in a careful breath, before her nose twitched, eyes watering lightly before she sneezed. A normal sneeze. She blinked, “Wha…did I catch a cold?”
A laugh came from above her, a red carapace insectoid digimon with green compound eyes was fluttering about with a bag gripped by one of its middle hand like appendages. A tentomon, it was laughing, “Hey there you dumb fox! Watch where you’re going, might run into something that your nose doesn’t agree with!” He reached into the bag with his other grabber, flinging some powder down on the fox digimon, drawing another sneeze.
“Cut it out!” She managed before a third sneeze came.
“Never! You big digimon think you’re so great, think that just because you’re taller you’re better than us little guys. Well no!” He pulled out some more and tossed it, “A virus on you and the humans who think you’re so great! But what can you do about me huh? Nothing, that’s right! I’m safe up here, and if you try to jump at me I’ll just fly higher and hit you with more of my partner’s grade A sneezing powder!” He laughed some more, “So scat fox girl! You and your over inflated chest!”
Krystal growled, “Why you…ah…ah…ah…CHOO!” her eyes shot wide open as her sneeze suddenly turned into a concussive shot, whipping through the air and hitting the tentomon. He screamed as he sailed through the sky, bag of sneezing powder dropping to the ground as he flailed about helplessly.
“WHAT THE!?” She had meant to just calmly speak it, but again her voice had become a concussive force, a trashcan being shot into the air with its contents raining down, covering a few people in garbage. It wasn’t exactly clear how, but Krystal had managed to go an even darker shade of red as she quickly dashed off toward what she hoped was the PZ. She needed help with this immediately, she’d die of embarrassment otherwise.
She kept herself from saying anything as she noticed a bunch of digimon and humans at the open park. She looked around frantically for her friends, hoping they hadn’t gone home yet. She eventually caught sight of them, running toward them as fast as her legs would carry her.
Azriel sighed, shaking his head as he looked the card over, “Come on you stupid thing, work!” He swiped it, looking to patamon, who was looking back confusedly. “Well I still see you…so that’s the Shroud card a resounding failure.”
Krystal skid to a stop, panting as she looked to them…and they didn’t pay any attention to her. The renamon blinked, opening her mouth to try and get their attention only for nothing to come out. She looked around, trying to get someone to notice her, but every one she waved to didn’t seem to notice her. She began to pace back and forth, paws clutching her head as she tried to figure out what was going on. Why had fate conspired to make her life a whirlwind of misery and woe!?
“Hmm, are we sure it’s the cards and not the digivice?” Azriel looked to his sister, “Try one of your old cards. Those worked, didn’t they?”
Amaya sighed, “Yeah they did, hold on gimme a second.” She slipped her backpack off, opening it and digging around as Azriel grabbed another card, the hyper shout, to try out again in a vain hope of it affecting patamon. “I swear to…Azriel you’re taking these defective things back to those assholes and telling them to just give you a…cash…bonus?” She blinked, “Wha?” She pulled out a digivice from her bag.
Patamon blinked, “…Amaya…isn’t that your digivice.”
Krystal was staring from the side, her predicament forgotten as she too became enthralled that the siblings were in possession of two digivices. Amaya grabbed one of the new cards, a mirror image card, and swiped it. Patamon had a feint glow before an exact copy of him appeared beside him, mimicking his every action. “This is mine…but then…what’s with…”
Azriel absent mindedly swiped the card before he stared at the digivice in his hand, “No way…”
Krystal’s body reappeared, the effect of the shroud card wearing off, no one noticed though as they all just stared at Azriel and the digivice in his hand.
“This is my digivice.”
“WHAT!?” Once again, her words had acquired a massive concussive force. And the siblings and patamon felt it first hand as they were sent tumbling and flailing across the ground dozens of yards away. Krystal covered her mouth, blushing deeply.
“Uwahhhh…where did she come from?” Patamon groaned, dazed and confused from the sudden blast, Amaya not far away in a similar state while upside down against a tree.
Azriel was a short distance away, groaning as he shifted and moved a little, recovering from the sudden blast as he looked up to Krystal. Then he looked back to his digivice, then back to her than to his digivice before a massive smile spread across his face. “HA! SCORE! I HAVE TO TELL RON! I GOT A HOT DIGIMON PARTNER! SOMEBODY LOVES ME!” He pumped his arm in the air as he cheered.
Krystal groaned, “Oh why me…” she covered her face with her paws as the horror of the situation sunk in. Why had fate conspired to make her life a whirlwind of misery and woe!? Why!?
At the other end of the city, a digital field had appeared, a massive digimon emerging for the entry point. It was black, save for long red claws at the end of its long spindly arms, and the four red eyes on its dinosaur like head. Two pairs of wings came from its back, extending as it took the beast into the air, flying in a steady and set direction. The devidramon let out a roar as it soared away.
The field persisted for a while after the dark dragon digimon’s departure, a second figure emerging and walking out after a bit. A purple cape, whose collar covered most of his face, over red and yellow clothes that had more zippers than any article of clothing should have, with a purple wizard hat adorned with a red eyed skull.
The wizarmon looked around as the digital field disappeared behind him, spinning around a little before shaking his head. “Great, now where has my ever so pleasant travel companion gone off to?” Her surveyed the area before sighing, “Great, wonderful…he pops out first and what does he do…just goes flies off on his own. Probably going to do something stupid and cause a whole mess of trouble because that’s my life isn’t it? No, can’t have that there wizarmon have an easy time of things can we, oh no no no, gotta make everything a pain in his rear.” He grumbled as he started walking in the direction of screaming, “What did I do to deserve this?”

Why!?
*****At the other end of the city, a digital field had appeared, a massive digimon emerging for the entry point.
