to be honest I don't see why anyone would take such abuse from that woman..seriously a part time job as a waitress or being a servent girl..or heck a gutter cleaner is better off then this!! I guess the problem, since this comic is based heavily in japan tradition, plus an older setting, there is a strong "respect" for the oldest and to stick to the rules. Nae situation is sad, but wasnt that uncommon that I know. And since geishas job is basically "be perfect" that put a high standard on what was spected for Nae.

Hm...I guess you are correct I have nothing to argue the case but there has to be a limit to how badly you want to be a geisha and just getting a job filpping burgers...or whatever is the feudal japan era variant. as shamefull as it is anything has to be better then THAT....
Definitly, anything is better than get abused for sure. The sad part is that this is a society that basically will have no sympathy for Nae if she is considered a failure and will agre on Asamis punishment on some degree. One must wonder how much Nae think it "necessary" to take to become a geisha...
I am fairly certain that the feudal japan equivalent of a "flipping burger job" is being a beggar in the streets. OR, maybe being a whore.
