Here's some concept art from Issue #2 of Captain Freeagle.
Sergeant Magnus Carter from DARPA lab security engages enemy forces who have breached the lab's security measures and made it into the main corridor, seeking to kill Captain Freeagle, who is still injured from a previous battle. Will he be able to hold off enemy forces long enough for reinforcements to seal off the lab and protect their technology or will The Captain have to protect the lab himself?

I hear ya! The lab has species of all sizes, but most are mice, squirrels and raccoons burrowed away underground who work on developing the science program. Most of their technology isn't ready for field use yet, so they do whatever they can to keep it from exiting the lab. In this scene, the security robots failed to hold back enemy forces and security personnel are forced to use whatever they have (in this case, laser weapons designed for larger species) in order to hold off the enemy.
