Well, my laptop is officially dead...
I tried to turn it on tonight to relax and watch ponies while I ate dinner after a long, stressful day, and this is pretty much all I got.
I had to let it do that stupid disk check thing, and then when I tried to log in, this happened; my Luna cursor appeared on a black screen, and nothing else happened.
I guess, even though I can't afford it, I have to start looking for a new laptop...
Luckily, I do have the laptop I got from ITT, and so that's what I'm using now, but it is pretty much the cheapest machine you could find, and thus can't do much. It even struggles with GIMP, and doesn't even have an optical drive. Pretty much, it's good for browsing on the internet, and not much else. Hell, it's not even good for watching ponies! The sound sucks, and the video keeps glitching out!
So, yeah, I need a new machine. The only problem is, I have no idea what company to try. I'm definitely NOT going with another Toshiba! And even though my first Dell was a great machine, the second one I bought was not so good.
I think I'm gonna shoot for a gaming laptop this time, that way, it can handle the programs I want to try to run on it, like Sourcefilmmaker, which I have had problems running on all of my computers. (hell, my laptops struggle to run freakin' Minecraft!)
I know a gaming laptop is bloody expensive, but when I buy a computer, I always try to by as top of the line I can, and one that should last me for several years, and be able to run the programs I want to run.
Anyone have any suggestions? I guess my budget can go up to about $2000, although I'd rather try to aim a bit lower, like $1500 (I don't actually have that much, so it will all have to go on a credit card *shudders*)
On newegg.com, I saw quite a few Asus brand, though I'm not sure if that's a good brand or not?
I know Alienware from Dell is a popular brand, though I think it's usually pretty pricey...
What do you guys think? What's a good brand to go with?

Toshiba is a horrible company, don't go with it ever again, my friend has one and it has leprosy right now, overheating, keys falling off, I mean...it's only three months old XD
But if your looking for something cheap and are fine with a semi-desktop if you can order online and have access to a monitor, you should try the Alienware alpha, it's small, powerful and only around 999 for the cheapest model, the most expensive being about 1,500, I know it's a gaming oriented PC, but it can do everything else you need it to X3
As for laptop specific brands, I'd recommend Acer, mine has lasted six years and still runs fine, although they can be a bit pricey, hope this helped

Yeah, my Toshiba has pretty much been problematic straight out of the box, and the company seriously raped be in repair costs, even when they didn't do any repairs, and totally dishonored their warranty. Never again...
I was actually looking at the Acer Predator, that looks like one hell of a machine! The Asus I was looking at can't even compete with it. I also tried looking on the Asus and Acer websites, but it looks like Newegg has a better deal

I have a dell that's been doing the same thing. I got past it by turning it on and off again a few times, trying "start from last successful startup" in the bios, or just leaving the black screen for about 20 minutes. Mine eventually came to the login screen out of nowhere after I let it sit.
Yeah, my Toshiba seems to have finally started after sitting for forever. I guess I'll just not shut it off?
Although it still is laggy, and can't even run Gimp without crashing. I think the hard drive is going out.
But this computer has been problematic for years now, so I think I'm gonna try to find something else...

Hmm... that's looking like $2200 to $2800 depending if I want to go with a SSD or regular HDD...
I'm kinda considering it, because I would REALLY love to have a SSD rather than a HDD, since I have dealt with so much HDD failures (went through 4 in my Toshiba...)
But it may be a good idea to think on it a bit before jumping on it
