i find that foreground shading is aided by a background which reinforces the scene lighting.
i think it makes execution and visualization easier
then again, that's probably more a statement of opinion than it is advice
as i never developed any proficiency in flat styles
and i do realize this account makes my remark all the more absurd.

I actually really appreciate this kind of feedback, thank you. Hopefully I can get this shading under control so it isn't two-toned and poorly placed cell. It's always the matter of the subject casting a shadow one way and the background casting one in a completely different direction.
