I guess I'm just saying I would rather be with 'freaks' that are fine with who they are, than with a partial freak that is willing to hit it, quit it, and pretend they never did it.

Also this is probably not just inspired by that friend, but also
scribbles, who was a friend that left the site because she got a super awesome job and didn't want anyone to find out she had any association with furries. Or maybe it was from friends who have told me they're only kind of furry and also don't want to be associated by furries or whatever.
I guess I just feel differently and way too strongly about it. :3

*cush-cush* I used to actually feel like your friend. Though, thanks to you and my other friends, my opinion on this matter has changed.
The way I see it, if someone at a job interview wants to hit me up for being a part of the fandom, they are welcome to do so. Heck, I already even have a response for if an employer, or professional lead, googles and finds me here.
"We all have our interests and outlets for creativity and community. Mine is no different than those people who go to a bar, or any other social gathering place."
Above all else, though, being rejected for employment for being "different" is 110% illegal. If anyone WOULD bring it up at a job interview they'd be violating ethics codes and you would not be obligated to answer. Though, being me, I'd be glad to humor the question. This is because, as you said, it is a very mis-understood niche that, like my blindness, is mis-represented by ignorant people.

It can be a scary thought. (: But you make a great point! This place is kinda like a bar, huh? But instead of drinking, the focus is on art, or furries, or whatever reason people come here for. :3 That's a neat idea!
I have an older friend on here who's a furry, and everyone at his work knew he was a furry. the only time it might have partially interfered with work was when he had to delete a journal entry on FA, since he was complaining about his employees in it. That seems totally reasonable to me - but when he deleted the entry in front of his boss, he didn't get a hard time for being on a furry website or anything (well one of his employees and him talked about it often but not much else).
And like you said, it's not legal to do something like that. (:
Hehe, people and situations and life... are complex. 8D

Aaaaaaand also I'm glad I didn't start talking about people that say they aren't furries, but have accounts on FA and like furry artwork and all the other things normal furries like...
I'd think that's just them thinking furry is something much more than it really is?
I think that's kinda the case for anyone that freaks out about furries... I'd think we're just like the cartoon animal version of anime fans, haha. :B
It probably looks weird that I'm commenting myself so I guess I should stop and go do homework or something.

*cush-cush* I'm embarassed to say that was me when I first logged on here. *cush-cush*
Though, as I've met people on here, I've discovered that, in truth, I fit in here more than I fit in anywhere else. *cush-cush* Whether for better, or worse, I am a furry. Well, I'm actually more a scaley than a furry. However, as it all falls under the same genre, *cush-cush* you know what I mean. :)

Ehehe, you don't have to be embarrassed for feeling that way! (:
Everyone starts out different, I think. I was lucky enough to just sorta... not be that sure what a furry really was, but then eventually just accepted "well if that's all it takes to be one, I guess I am too."
I don't think everyone has it that easy though. :3 Woop woop for scaleys!

Damn, it's nice hearing someone else say this out loud for a change. Look, I understand that some furs really need to reform themselves a bit and not taken certain things so seriously... but that goes for people that take the idiots in the fandom too seriously too.
I have friends that use wtf_fa practically religiously, and it's kinda hard to listen to what they do on there. They say they are helping the fandom by pointing out the flaws, but what I see is a bunch of people seeking a means to flame 15 year old, sexually and socially oppressed teenagers because they can't be dicks to them on FA. It'd be different if they gave honest critique that they give to them on their profile, but all it boils down to is saying "god this is weird why do people draw this" while the guy would never know it was being mocked.
Yeah, there are a couple people in there 30's that do things that are, frankly, waaaaay immature... But humanity is FULL of loudy, noisy idiots that ruin it for the majority. I dunno. I just sort of take a lax attitude for all of this and participate in what I like.

Ehehe, I'm glad to hear that! I haven't heard anyone really say much like that myself, so I might as well hurry up and do it myself. 8D No one in a community is perfect, but it'd probably be more enjoyable if we didn't always take each other so seriously. (:
Oof. D: I know what kinda groups ya mean. Though, I think I'm more familiar with users on here doing that themselves - like posting journals linking to dramatic pieces of artwork, other journals, or plushies with SPH's in them, and other things people like to make fun of. I think it's fine to poke fun at others now and then, but constantly being mean and outcasting things that are different, or things you don't like, don't really make this community as fun and free for others as it could be... especially since I thought furries would know how bad outcasting others is, since we're outcasted sometimes too? :3
I guess it's just people that're different - lots of people like drama, and lots of people think it ruins fun.
Either way, I'm just glad someone could kinda relate and all. :3 Thank you!

Hehe, luckily we can separate bestiality/zoophilia from furry-philia? :3 I don't know how many people are both furries and zoophiles, but I'm just glad that the words are separate, and not inter-changeable.
Everyone's got their opinion on what drags us down! :D Ehehe.
I guess other people are just jealous at how cool and open we are with our fetishes. ;P

I think you have the right attitude. :D
Assumptions that people make about furries are no reason to abandon furries - if anything, the people that believe in stupid assumptions would be worth abandoning.
...But I think it'd be better to just sorta let them know that their assumptions are wrong, so people won't think the wrong thing about us. :3

Well, luckily a lot of furries are like that... but definitely not all. (:
I think I agree with ya though - at least in that people that put up with the intolerance that others have are (hopefully) less likely to be intolerant themselves, or at least more likely to be understanding. (:

Agreed. That is the reason I chose to be a part of FA over DA. Too many people who were "different" on DA seemed to get flamed needlessly from people who apparently had nothing better to do with their time.
True, as Nishi and RCGD have noted, there are bad folks out there. However, having been on here nearly eight months now, I have YET to meet a single one of them. I feel this is because many in the fandom know what it is like to be judged adversely by society and understand we each need an outlet and place to be ourselves.
Simply put, if you are open everyone else here seems pretty open and kind, too. That's been my experience anyway. :)

Generalizations are a harsh thing~ Reminds me of this image I saw on Cracked a while back.

Kinda applies in this situation, where the few extreme nonsensists† outweigh the image of the vast majority otherwise... l3

Hehe, luckily I think that's the case. (: People who might not have their own odd little thing to eat up their time is probably more likely to spend their life enjoying that, instead of making others feel bad about what they're doing and enjoying. (:
I'd much rather be a strange contributor than someone who complains too much to be productive! ;3 Ehehe, I like the way you worded everything.

I agree with you here.
Quite often, the only people out there who whine and complain are the ones who are, deep down, insecure about themselves and the ideals they follow / stand for. Because of this, rather than being productive, they spend their time belittling others in order to make themselves feel better about something that they themselves aren't exactly sure of.

I totally understand. @__@ If I say I'm a furry...I have to explain I'm not a furry furry...I just really like drawing animals/anthro. I don't dress up or think that I'm that animal. Not that there's anything wrong with it I guess. It's just not my thing. So I'm a bit afraid to say I draw furriez without having to explain myself. ~(_ _~)
I understand. :3 People might make crazy assumptions just because they hear one thing about you, and not being able to explain who you are might make it less worth the hassle. :B
...I still have to explain a lot of stuff to one of my friends that doesn't know every gay stereotype doesn't apply to every gay person. 8D

I actually hate when people like furry art, draw furry art, and have furry characters but they say they aren't furry because "furries are sick". It's stupid because they could be called a furry just because of what they do/like.
Other people may have better reasons that I would understand though, like someone who just happens to draw anthro art among other things but doesn't want to be "typecasted" into furry drawings.

Ehehe, I feel the same way. 8D I think they're just promoting the idea that furries are terrible, sick people, when it's just the extremes. Most people that say that are probably just like the average furry too. 8D Or at least that's been my experience... it's just a simple thing. (:
And that's good to keep in mind too - just because someone draws a cat-human now and then doesn't really mean that they're furry either. :3

I think it's pretty one sided to think a furry is a pervert for enjoying sex. But most of the extreme cases are normally blown out of proportion. But I think out of everyone, no one believes that furries are perverts more than furries themselves.
Most of the time when I "encounter" someone online that dislikes furries it's for one of three reasons:
1.) Someone who doesn't understand furries, and comes to assume that we all like to fuck dogs.
2.) Someone who enjoys pissing off nerds and finds furries to be a particularly easy group to tease.
3.) Someone who becomes incredibly insecure around furries [for whatever reason] and hate them as a result.
Really numbers 1 and 2 don't bother me, because number one's normally ease up when you explain it to them in a way they can understand. They still might not like furs, but they don't really begrudge you for it either. And 2, well they're assholes I guess, but I find that most number two's don't actually care WHO they're making fun of, so it's not really something that's incredibly personal.
What really bothers me are number three's. These people tend to hate things that they don't understand. And it's not that they can't understand it, but more so that they're so afraid of it, they choose not to; ignorance. What's worse is when someone like that decides that it's existence alone is a threat to them. Cowardice is truly pitiable.

Haha, you're probably right. :3 Furries would think more into it than an outsider that judges other groups, since that furry would worry about being something as far as their own self, and would blow it out of proportion for sure.
I think one of the old friends I used to have I still keep in mind for that reason - he seems most like number three. He makes cute furry art, but hates furry porn and is really insecure. Actually, you've started watching him recently. 8D
He kinda had a pre-set idea of what I was like, and eventually broke out in anger during our last fight about it and said all my friends were just perverts that like to yiff and only cared about porn, and that I was the same way.
But he mentioned that he did meet a furry friend offline, and that the guy was a total creep and eh, did something kinda personal and over-the-top, and dog gone it that set him off. 8D So now he's paranoid about perverted furries, and I wasn't the one that could help him out.
eh, ranted a bit... but yeah. I guess people know how to leave impressions on others when they turn out like that.
