A story from me? It feels like it's been forever! Well nothing like a Secret Santa gift to help get the story skills going again.
Brian the capybara is invited to a holiday party hosted by a bakery looking to expand their franchise. But the bakery's reputation isn't the only thing that expands at this party.
This gift is for

Secret Santa this year.
Happy Holidays everyone!
“Come on… come on… just a little farther and I’ve got it…” Brian said as he focused everything on a singular task that would define his life. Something that he knew would top his greatest achievements before it.
He was going to beat the hidden final boss of Shadow Spirits IV.
Hours had flown by as the capybara attempted the battle again and again. His palms and fingers ached from holding the controller so tight. But he had to press on. This was far too important. He’d played for days to just get to this point, overcoming impossible challenge after impossible challenge. A true hero’s story, translated into video game form. Now with less than a quarter of the final boss’s health left, he had his best chance. Nothing was going to take him away from this moment now!
Ding dong
Brian’s ears perked up as the doorbell rang through his home. He gave a grunt and pretended not to hear it, instead refocusing on his game before he lost any of his momentum. The boss, a rather large white dragon, was charging in for another attack and it took prime gamer skills to get out of the way.
Ding dong
Brian grunted again and tried to ignore the doorbell. As he did, he missed the dragon swiping out with its tail and his character was thrown aside. Gasping at his mistake, Brian leaned closer to the television to get his mind back in the game. He was so far he couldn’t afford to be making such small mistakes now!
Ding dong
The capybara let out a cry of frustration and paused the game. He didn’t want to stop in the middle of his greatest battle, but whoever was at the door clearly wasn’t going to leave until they got a respond. Brian marched up to his door and threw it open, intending to drive whoever was there away so they would never again interrupt such a defining moment for him in gaming. “What?!” he shouted before he even saw who was at the door.
It wasn’t someone he knew at least. That made his outburst a little more justified, at least to him. Though what he was greeted with was a very surprised brown ferret dressed in some over-the-top elf costume. No doubt the extra surprise the the ferret’s face had to do with not expecting an angry capybara to swing the door open. Brian took a deep breath and collected himself before continuing. “Can I help you?” he asked.
“I-I apologize for the interruption sir, but we’re handing out invitations to our holiday gathering,” the ferret said as he pulled out an invitation from the inside of his costume’s coat and held it out. Brian snatched up the red piece of paper and red over it. He hadn’t heard of any place nearby doing a holiday party of any sort, so why was he only finding out about this now?
“What is this for? What sort of holiday get-together is this?” he asked the elf-dressed ferret. The fellow mammal straightened himself back up, and it appeared his holiday cheerfulness had returned after being momentarily scared out of him by Brian.
“I work for a bakery that’s based out of town called Benjamin’s Bottomless Bakery. We’re looking to expand out into different areas, reach new customers, and gain a little popularity outside of our hometown. While I know it is unconventional for a simple bakery to host any sort of holiday gathering, we think this is the perfect time of year to bring people together while trying out something delicious and new! Yes, it’s basically one big advertisement but that doesn’t mean everyone can’t have fun, right? We’ve rented out the town hall a few blocks away. Anyone that wants to is welcome to show up and have as many samples as they’d like. It’s on the house and we hope it encourages you to order from us in the future, especially if we happen to open up shop,” he said.
As elf-dressed ferret spoke he seemed to get more and more excited about this bakery. His excitement translated to the ferret’s long thin body as he was practically bouncing around, jingling the bells at the ends of his elf hat again and again. Brian had been to plenty of bakeries and restaurants, and while there were many that were certainly good, he’d never heard of one going door to door asking people to come to a holiday party to try free food. It was rather unorthodox, he had to admit and he initially was just going to turn down the offer. He had something far more important waiting to take up his time back in the living room. But the growling of his stomach halted him from saying “no thank you” right then and there. Brian realized he hadn’t had a full, proper meal for the last few days. All his attention had been on his game, and only feeding himself enough to keep going. With an offer of free food, and quite a lot of it by the sound of things, right in front of him, how could he refuse.
His hunger trumped his desire to play his game. This time at least. “Alright, I’ll come see what this party is about,” he said as he pocketed the invitation. The ferret clapped excitedly, grinning ear to ear and on the verge of hopping up and down.
“Oh that’s wonderful to hear! I promise you won’t regret it. Our baked goods are very, very popular back home. The doors open in an hour. I just have to finish doing my rounds in this part of the neighborhood and I’ll meet you there!” he said before giving a wave and heading back out to the sidewalk to continue on his quest for customers.
Brian shut the door and took out the invitation once more, looking it over. Everything looked legitimate, though he still surprised at the suddenness of this party. “Guess it can’t hurt to check it out,” he said to himself as he went to go get ready. The game remained on pause, and he’d be ready to return to it once he’d filled up on fresh treats and energy.
A little over an hour later and Brian was at the town hall. The place had been decorated in all the usual holiday dressings. The only new thing was the sign directing people inside for “Benjamin’s Bottomless Bakery holiday party”. As soon as he walked in past the doors, the capybara’s nose was hit with a wave of such sweet smelling treats that he swore it almost made him pass out. His nose twitched as he took in the smells, walking forward in a near-dreamlike haze into past the foyer and into the main hall.
What he came upon was like something out of a wonderful dream, however. Brian had expected just a few plates of baked goods set out on a table. But what he found was practically a buffet of deliciousness all themed for the holidays. Covering tables that spread from wall to wall all around the edge of the room were gingerbread houses, gingerbread men, sugar cookies, candy canes, chocolates, gumdrops, hot chocolate, apple cider, and so much more! It was all just sitting out there for anyone to enjoy. The bakery had set out a feast that looked large enough to feed half the town. Brian’s jaw dropped and he swore he might have started drooling a bit.
“Oh you’re here! I’m so glad you made it!” came a familiar voice. The ferret, still dressed in his elf costume, bounded up and shook Brian’s hand, even though Brian himself was so distracted by the food that he didn’t even attempt a real shake. He chuckled as he finally noticed Brian’s disbelief. “It is the season for giving after all. And our owners really wanted to give to show how much we want people to enjoy our treats and order from us again. Like I said before, everything is on the house. Have as much as you like and stay as long as you wish. If you need anything, feel free to call for me. Oh! And my name is Clyde,” he said as he gave an over exaggerated bow then went to attend to some of the other guests. Brian wasn’t the first one there, as a handful of others from around the neighborhood had shown up.
Brian gave a weak nod to Clyde, only half hearing him. HIs eyes were still glued to the greatest holiday feast he’d ever seen. Slowly he walked towards it in his half-daze. Before he even realized it what was going on, he had already grabbed a handful of sugar cookies and was eating them. The sweet taste of the sugar cookie and the thick coating of fresh frosting on top was what broke him from his trance. It was real! It was all real! Brian didn’t even bother with a plate. Why waste the time putting things onto the plate that he was just going to put in his mouth anyways? He made his way around the line of tables, grabbing this and that and eating it down. He had to try everything, it was all too good to pass up on. No wonder Clyde had seemed so hopeful about others wanting to order from the bakery in the future. With food this good, how could anyone refuse?
The only oddity that Brian could place on the treats was that they all tasted rather… heavy. Not physically of course, but each bite just felt thick and full of taste. It was a wonderful thing to have each bite taste just as full and delicious as the last, but the back of his mind did think that was a bit odd. Perhaps that was just a trick the bakers knew to keep their food so good? It was a minor oddity and Brian really only wanted to focus on getting more food.
Time passed, though he couldn’t really say how much. All that Brian did know was that several guests had come and gone, and he noticed different faces around every time he looked back to see who was here. Brian had kept near the tables the whole time, and it was only when he was struggling to reach the roof of a gingerbread house that he noticed something was off. By “something was off”, he couldn’t reach the house. The one thing preventing him from reaching his next handful of wonderful treats was his own stomach. The capybara had been gorging himself so much this night that his stomach now pushed out against his green sweatshirt. So much so that as he leaned up against the table to get more food, it pushed up against the table enough to keep him from fully reaching what he wanted.
“Huh…” he said as he poked at his stomach, feeling more intrigued by his change in physique from the last few hours than anything else. Almost as if on cue, Clyde came up and stood in front of the now pudgy capybara. “Ah, I see you’ve found a bit of our wonderful treats ‘side effects’,” he said.
“Side effects?” Brian asked as he looked up at the ferret, then back down at his stomach and gave it a firm poke that sent it jiggling. “Why didn’t you warn me about this?!”
The ferret winced a bit at Brian’s little outburst. “W-well if I had said this could happen no one would have come. And there was no way I could know some people would eat enough all at once to start… rounding out. But I promise you it’s nothing to worry about! Our treats taste absolutely wonderful, but we have had a small issue of our patrons ending up a bit wider from continued visits. We’re trying to work on fixing that without losing our signature tastiness. I do hope you’re not too upset,” he said, his smile wavering a bit.
Brian looked back and forth between Clyde, then the table filled with holiday treats, back to Clyde, then back to the treats. Finally, Brian turned so he was side to side with the table, reached out and grabbed another cookie. “Bah, what’s a little holiday weight? I came here to enjoy this food so why stop now?” he said with a grin before grabbing more. Clyde sighed in relief before nodding. “I’ll be happy to assist you as needed sir,” he said with a bow before pushing some of the cookie plates closer to Brian then heading off to help other guests. It seemed Brian wasn’t the only one who had put on a little extra weight from the food.
With the knowledge known and accepted that he would be leaving the party heavier and wider than when he first showed up, Brian didn’t hold back at all. He continued his feast with gusto, grabbing as much as he could hold in his hands and devouring it all. The food never lost it’s taste, never started to taste bland. It was as though each bite was the first one he’d had. And of course, as he ate his way through cookies and gingerbread and drank down hot chocolate, the expected effects on his body continued.
The coming expansion didn’t take long to get going once he fully engrossed himself in eating without restraint. Brian chowed down as he moved from table to table, grabbing at everything that remained within reach. With the speed he was eating, it didn’t take long for his body to further the effects of the sugary treats. His brown, furry belly pushed out against his green sweatshirt more and more, now looking like he was trying to hide a beach ball. The more he gorged himself, the more his shirt rode up and exposed his stomach.
Walking from table to table became more of a chore, and even his walking was turning more into waddling as he moved. He swayed heavily from side to side as he tried to continue his feasting journey. Stuffing himself with so much sugary food was beginning to displace the extra weight he was rapidly gaining elsewhere. His stomach remained massive and was only continuing to grow bigger and rounder, but his sweater was getting tighter around his arms and he could feel his thighs jiggling with each heavy step.
As he was reaching for another gingerbread man, Brian heard the sound of a loud tear right before the constraining shirt around his chest went loose and fell off completely. “Ah great… there goes another one,” he huffed as he looked himself over. His belly hung down to his knees, wobbling with even the slightest movements he made. His chest had grown softer and would put a few of the women he knew to shame. Love handles had started piling up at his sides, and his pants were starting to tear at the sides from his massive thighs and jiggling rear.
Brian did manage to get his gingerbread man even after the loss of his sweatshirt. But as he leaned back from pressing his squishy bulk against the table, the sudden weight being shifted back sent Brian to his rear. At least there was more than enough padding on him now that he didn’t even feel the impact. He just kept gorging himself on what he could.
“My, my. You really have quite the appetite on you,” Clyde said as he approached Brian with a silver platter stacked high with treats. “By all means keep on eating, we’re happy to provide. This just helps show how great our bakery can make things!” he said excitedly as he handed the platter over to Brian. The capybara grinned, thanking Clyde for the refresh of snacks before digging in. Again his belly started to swell, filling his lap more and more. He could feel himself getting heavier and heavier, but also softer and warmer. The combination was making Brian more and more comfortable. His eyes grew heavier and his eating slowed. The last thing he remembered before everything went dark, was Clyde approaching and signaling for someone Brian couldn’t see.
For the second time, Brian had lost all track of time. Mostly because he had passed out this time instead of eating. But when he finally came to, he was quick to realize he wasn’t in the same place he’d passed out into his food coma. A few quick looks around and he noticed he was back in his living room! Even his game was still on and paused from last night!
“How did I… where did they… what?!” he questioned as he looked around for some sort of explanation of how he got back home. He hadn’t lost any of the weight from his feast last night, as he was still a massive ball of fur and fat. A ball so large that it filled most of his living room. Though he was concerned with how someone got him into his house when he swore he locked it the night before. And how they managed to fit him through the doorway without destroying it. Though as the confusion started to fade, a familiar smell drifted across Brian’s nose. More of those cookies from the party!
Brian first looked towards his kitchen almost expecting the ferret to be there making a fresh batch of them. But it was just as quiet as the rest of his house. As Brian shifted his massive bulk around to try and search the house, a red box fell from the crest of his belly down onto his chest, right in front of his face. “Huh? What’s this?” he said as he lifted his pudgy arms and held the box. It looked like a present, but the fresh-baked cookie smell was now stronger than ever, coming right from it. Brian grinned as he read the letter attached to the bow.
To a new future favorite customer,
Thank you for giving our holiday party a try. I and my little helpers decided to get you back home after you passed out in a food coma. Don’t worry, we left everything locked up and even moved your game controller so it’s within reach. As for how we got you inside… well that’s our little secret.
We haven’t seen anyone enjoy our food as you in a long time! We hope these cookies (and the other boxes we’ve stored in your pantry) tide you over until you’re able to move enough again.
Have a wonderful holiday!
Clyde
