Gabby-Gabby-Gaboo! I can't believe I found this! I've been looking for this picture for oh, so long! Yay!
Oh, *blushes* sorry about that. *cush-cush*
Back when my wife and I were expecting, I went CRAZY drawing pictures of Baby Scorchios in anticipation of what it might be. For the longest time, I had thought and hoped for a girl. However, on that fateful afternoon in October of 2006, we learned that we were going to have a boy.
Initially, I was saddened that I wasn't going to have a daughter. This passed quite quickly, though, and was replaced with excitement that I put into drawing this very image to share with my co-workers and all those I could scan and send it to who were also eagerly waiting for the news.
Much has changed since that day. Though, in hindsight, I must say I am most elated to have a son and that I wouldn't have it any other way. Nope, nope, nope!

Hehe, congratulations! 8D
For some reason I was surprised to hear you wanted a girl at first! I guess I'm more used to either people in general, or just the males I know, saying that they wanted to have a boy instead. (: It's good that not everyone thinks the same way!
But thinking on your work, like with Zarra, and Bo, and the girls (hamster and owner) in Love and Friendship... or maybe kind of like in Hamtaro (human-wise), there are a lot of girl main characters. (: Or well, at least I think there's a better distribution of females than usual?
I dunno, but when I thought of the way you write with females, it kinda made sense to me. 8D Hehe.
But I'm glad you're happy with the results! Boy, girl, or whatever else, it's still your child! (: Woop woop woop!
And it's kinda funny, we were talking about gender roles in my class yesterday, and how boys are dressed in blue with sport-related things like football, and girls usually are dressed in pink and have something like dolls. (: Either way it's a clear indicator when you send these things out to your pals. :3

Gee Willickers, Oxnard! This has got to be at least the FIFTH time you have managed to read deeper into EXACTLY what I was thinking! How do you it! *cush-cush*
Actually, when I posted this, I was going to put a blurb on it mentioning the "Gender Roles" and how, for the sake of culture, I opted back then to give the Baby Scorchio representation of my forthcoming son a football on his shirt. My wife actually remarked when I drew this about how annoying it is that, right off the bat, people are bombarded with gender roles. Society is a beast, isn't it?
Oh, bonus info, the reason I really wanted a girl is a result of how worried I was / still am about how dissapointing of a male, role model I am. I'm far more "cutesy" than "intense" than a typical dude and, because of that, I fear I'll become known as a lame dad. I can't fix things, without duck tape ;), nor am I really apt to sports as my sight makes me more inclined to get hit with a ball than to catch it. My only real saving grace would be if he would, on his own, get into creativity and other geeky, fun stuff that guys who aren't in the "pop culture" scene get into. In that case, I'd be kind of cool. :)
Though, no matter what, I do hope seeing me battling against the odds with condition gives my son something that a large portion of the populace doesn't have. That being "understanding of others." Ignorance is a terrible thing. Voluntary ignorance is even worse. If seeing his old man do well against the odds and social norms is enough to make him be open to people of different backgrounds, cultures, and beliefs, I will have done my job. :)

I guess that's just how we roll! ;P Ehehe, but you're right. We get all sorts of things thrown at us because of our gender, or something else about us that society has it's opinion on, from the very day we're born. At least at some point when we grow up we can learn to combat that and be ourselves. ;P
Oooh, I understand. (: I guess that's another bit of gender roles implemented on ya both. It's tough to try to live up to social expectations like that... but I think that's kind of good that you don't fit it too! At least he may not dig into how people are stereotyped, by gender in this case, and maybe will be less likely to think he has to like all the same certain things outside forces might suggest. (:
though I guess we all get plenty of that anyways, bit by bit is still a good start. ;3 And same with your own condition - I think that'll teach him something that maybe most parents wouldn't really be able to at a younger age. ...I'm not sure, I'm bad at talking about parenting and kids and all, haha. 8D
Either way, I don't think you'd be a let down, so here's to hoping!

Thanks, Zoom! The Mrs. actually found this in her portfolio at work the other day.
I used to go into school with her on the weekends, when we didn't have the tyke, and, along with helping her, I'd write and draw. Some of these she kept around as momentos to brighten up the atmosphere. Her students used to get a kick out of some of the doodles I'd leave up on the corners of her dry-erase board, which was a good thing considering it provided some peace in an otherwise chaotic, teaching environment. :)
