And for comparison, here's my setup way back sometime in 1997. Hey this was a bitchen setup then! Great for playing Quake and Duke Nukem.
Windows 98SE (ugh!)
AMD K6-2 300 (later upgraded to 450) mhz processor on a EPOX motherboard. My local PC dealer (CPU in Longview TX) was really promoting AMD processors then and they were a LOT cheaper than Intel..
I cant remember how much memory it had, probably not very much! Maybe 64K or 1gig. And two 640 mb Western digital hard drives. I thought that was a lot of space.
NEC 12" monitor, 56K modem (no cable broadband around here until 2001), Soundblaster card, cheap ass Canon printer, B&W Quickcam, Labtec speakers, some crummy hand scanner that scanned this photo, and ZIP DISCS for storing mod files and those new sound files called Mp3's. Remember Zip discs? Anyone still use them?
CD-R's were just coming out, and a burner in East Texas could run you anywhere from 200-400 buckaroos. 2X and 4X speeds only. No kidding. I still have the old IBM keyboard (Clack Clack Clack) stored away and the GE telephone is still working fine.
Looking back I wish someone online would have told me what a "furry" was back then. I didn't find out until 2003!
